    hello,

a friend of mine gave me a box he bought on ebay its the golden media box 8050. it worked away grand for him till rte 2 started broadcasting in hd. there is no hd connection on the box only scart.

so as it turns out he went and got a soarview approved 42inch for the sitting room and gave this to me. i also have a soarview approved tv so i dont really need it as such, i was only trying to find a use for it in a spare bedroom/kitchen.

the box itself is blacklisted on the soarview website for the rte hd issue.(so no complaints there)

my question is can hdmi to scart connecter/adaptor do anything for me here or is it just a waste of time.

these leads/adaptors are usually a bit pricy so i am not wasting my money here if i know its not gonna do anything for me.

as i understand it hdmi cable send audio and video down the same cable, scart does not(or something like that)

i have seen alot of hdmi to scart boxes or adapters like so:

but then i saw this recently:

and was wondering would this do the trick?

    any thoughts/suggestions

Your box does not receive the signal for RTE HD and no matter what you do, it will still not receive it. You are wasting your time - it is not possible.

The problem is not the lack of HDMI as RTÉ2 HD would be downscaled for scart or RF output.

The problem is the specification of the receiver, HD decoding requires MPEG-4 HP@L4.0. Many STBs are only MPEG-4 HP@L3.0 i.e. SD decoding only - so no RTÉ2 HD.
