    I dont quite follow.

    You wrote off your car.

You sold it when you were clearing out the garage.

    AND ???

Did you fix it up and sell it as perfect? or did you sell it as crashed for parts?

What exactly have you done ?

Did you sell it to an Authorised Treatment Facility?

This is from the FAQ on http://www.motortax.ie/ .....

13Q. How do I notify you of a scrapped vehicle?

13A. Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (less than 3,500 kg) for destruction (scrapping) must be deposited at an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) in accordance with the requirements of the Waste Management (End-of-Life) Regulations 2006. Details of your local ATFs can be got from your Local Authority. Vehicles can be deposited free-of-charge at an ATF and the destruction of the vehicle will be recorded on the computer records.

You won't be laughing if it's put back on the road and someone starts driving it through the M50 toll gates or racks up speeding tickets.

You will. Ring +353 (0)1 4748900 and ask for a woman called Anne Lyons.;)

If as you say you sold it for parts, get the book put in the new owners name otherwise you will be responsible for any fines etc that get racked up on the car, not so funny now?

If the new owner wants the logbook it's because they intend to fix it up and put it back on the road i.e. they are going to sell it to someone who wants to register it in their own name and drive it.

If you can live with that then put the new owner's name on it and send the form to Shannon, do not hand the logbook over to the person buying the car. Chances are that if they are going to put a write-off back on the road then you cannot trust them to register themselves or the person they sell the car on to and you will end up getting grief for unpaid tolls and speeding tickets.

Or worse still if it was used in an armed robbery or a joy riders "company car"..

Did you tell the buyer it was crashed or was that obvious from looking at it?

Paradoxically that would probably be easier to deal with than the M50 toll people or a heap of speeding tickets.

If Annie Lyons isn't there, her colleague Anna Conda will be able to help.
