PS3 DVD problem?

I bought the Peep Show series 1-7 box-set recently and I tried to watch series one tonight but when I put the disc in, a very loud whirring, almost rattling sound came from my PS3, but it played (I only left it on until the copyright screens because I was worried about the noise). I took it out, tried it again and the same thing happened. I put in FIFA 11 and that worked fine, normal sound from the PS3.
I then tried Peep Show in a X-Box and it made loud noise in that too.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Faulty DVD maybe?
    I don't think it's the PS3 because that's only about 2 months old.

    Thanks for any help.

Try another DVD. My PS3 starts making a loud whirring noise when a DVD is put in but it's grand when I put in a Blu-ray disc.

I tried a few other DVD's and they worked fine, no strange noise. I'll assume it's a faulty DVD then.

Sounds like the DVD isn't flat or something. Warped?

I tried it again last night and it worked, which it did before anyway, and it quietened down to normal PS3 noise after about 5 minutes.
While the episode played, it was quiet but when it went on to the main menu it started whirring very loudy again but as soon as I went into a new episode, the noise stopped immediately.

But mid-way through the fourth episode, it froze. So, I haven't a clue what's up with it. I just hope it isn't doing damage to the PS3.
I'll check if it's warped when I get home.

This happens occasionally with my PS3. Think it's because the disc isn't exactly flat/round and causes it to vibrate slightly. But that's just a guess. Discs still play and the sound lowers after a while so, although worrying, shouldn't be a problem for you.
