What is more accepted; being gay or dating someone who is of a different colour/race

Just thinking what people here think. Would you be more okay with; if one of your family/friends came out that they are gay or that they met and are going out with a black or dark skinned race man/women or if your gay brother/sister was going out with someone who is black or dark skinned race guy/girl.

I've had both happen to me with friends and i've no problem with either

tbh most people that are okay with one are okay with the other

    What a ridiculous question.

Surely it doesn't make a difference either way.

    I wouldn't care about either.

The whole world is becoming mixed raced. Give it 200 years or less and we'll all be beige.

Britain may have a mixed race majority by the second half of this century, so come on you need to get with the times. It would be a disaster if this didn't happen.

which is more accepted - different race.
    no personal opinion.

    That's that sorted then.

Could you pick me up some Wispa bars? My local doesn't sell them anymore :(

Neither would bother me in the slightest.

Oddly though, my parents have told us that they'd have no problem if any of us were gay. But they would apparently kill me if I ever got involved with a black guy

It would not make a difference at all as long as they are happy
    Who care what anyone thinks

Don't believe you. Surely most people don't think like that in this day in age.

Not really, but how would your mother and father be if your sister brought home a nigerian guy to introduce him to the family?

Why should it matter for fcuks sakes?

If you want to take home a Nigerian guy to meet the family, it's entirely up to you.

A lot of people don't accept their daughter/son going out with someone who is dark. I know of few people whose mothers wern't happy with the fact their going out with different colour person. You don't have to go out with a different colour person I know a guy who was going out with a german girl and his mother was saying 'would you not get someone Irish' and his family were not welcoming to her.

Well yea obviously. That's what everyone does who is in serious relationship is introduce them to your parents

Neither would bother me. In the area I live in it's much more acceptable for someone to date someone of a different race than to be gay. It's actually pretty common to see mixed race relationships here and I don't see anyone give them hassle over it.

Well you might say that but in real life, if your sister or sister is bringing home a indian or chinese and im not talking about takeaways lol some one of a differnt colour often doesn't go down to well with a lot of people. I think maybe it's more accepted if your gay that your parents would accept a dark skinned person as ur bf/gf.

Racism and homophobia are two completely different things. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they can date a colored person "easier" (for lack of a better word) than someone who is straight.

That's certainly not a lot of people I know.

Obviously older people are more inclined to have prejudiced views but they're dying out. The younger generation today which are almost completely unracist will become parents one day and they'll be fine with it. :)

My mam would be extremely shocked that her daughter is no longer a prejudiced bigot.

There are a lot of things people going out with dark skinned people have to face. It would be a lot harder for them if their love ones were not happy with them being together.

When I went off to Africa in the 60s my dad told me not to come home with a black man. So I brought home an Irish Catholic instead. That showed him! :D

The whole world is becoming mixed race, how could anyone not know this be against it? It's like trying to stop a hurricane force imo. Europe (hopefully if we're lucky enough) will be a beige continent at some point in future. It's needs to be imo to eliminate racism.

    'Lol' indeed.

I think the OP is probably comparing two separate things, but the fact that homosexuality was illegal until relatively recently and that I would normally see a gay couple around town kissing or holding hands would make me think that there's still a long way to go in Ireland before homosexuality is really accepted by the vast majority of people. The last time I saw two girls walking down the street holding hands, they were followed by a junkie shouting after them and getting very excited at what he thought would be happening later between the two.

The only thing I might'nt be okay about if my sister brought home an arab/muslim. I would have to see if they are good to her first. I am not saying all arab/muslim men are like that, I know many of them are good but some of them can be very controlling of women. Some men are controlling anyways.

I agree I find it hard to believe, you'd think most people in Ireland would be fine with it, infact I would say most people in Ireland actively encourage it.

Not really, I went out with an indian guy for a few years, a real gentleman but the looks, stares and attitude you get from people is hard to take, it gets worse in rural areas. I got told 'be careful of him' and 'does he want to marry you for the visa' and is he illegal, etc. I don't know what some people are like being that closed minded and judgmental, When I encounter someone who is different at my work I am curious and interested in them because I like knowing about other cultures and people, who am i to judge.

Well it doesn't matter but in general but the blacks and chinese are accepted by default but the newer races like filipinos and indians arn't as much.

Since this thread has divulged into a Gays V Blacks contest I think I'll go with the gays they are far more open-minded and some African's really make us Irish look almost liberal with some of their weird ways eg.

Female Genital Cutting, Death Sentence for Gays, weird superstitions, raping virgins to offload HIV, inventing the Vuvuzela, Sharia Law, I'd prefer a person to be gay tbh!

David Norris is acceptable, he's gay and african! Hopefully a mixed race society will never happen, every race is unique and special and if we all become some short of yellow, chocolatey white colour wouldn't be all be kinda orange like that ITV weather guy?

To the OPs question: I would 100% not give a f*ck in either case.
If no one is being hurt against their will then nothing bad or wrong is taking place. It's a free world, people should date whoever the hell they want if it makes them happy. god knows there's enough misery in this world without inflicting more of it on people through bigotry and pointless stigma.

Eh... both homosexuality and 'interracial' unions have been around for thousands of years. It's reality; how do you not accept that?
