    Hi

ECU on an 2003 passat tdi was water damaged..
i have sourced one from a guy that says the immobiliser has been removed and all i need to do is fit it, i would not need to match up the part numbers or code it in, just plug and play

Anyone know if that would work??????

    thanks

Short answer is yes. Longer answer is that the "immo off" mods - basically taking a dump of the HEX values of the chip that stores the VIN, validation codes, installed electrical items like rain sensitive wipers, central locking and such, etc etc then rewriting the dump back to the chip is going to kill the immobiliser on your car which can have insurance related implications.

Your car can be started without the signal between the brain and the engine.

You may still need to have the central ECU and Engine ECU matched with dealer software. The car the old ECU came from may not be a match to yours.

I replaced an engine ECU on a Citroen, Bosch EDCxxxx. What I did was de-solder the 8 pin chip from the broken ECU and re-solder it onto the new (scrapyard) one. This means the main computer thinks that the new one is exactly the same as the old one.

OK Thanks, this passat is 100bhp so there is a good chance an unlocked ecu out of another 100bhp passat would work fine...

suppose fitting an 130bhp ecu would not work -wouldnt get the extra power by fitting it

LOL, no you wouldn't. ECU is not the only difference between 100 bhp model and 130 bhp model.

If the seller has disabled the immo on the ecu himself then surely he would be able to put your immo file into the ecu. Ask him where he got it before you part with your cash. You need to be sure the immo is actually disabled. If it'n not it's no huge deal to get the immo chip swapped over from your own ecu

The seller is in England, he sells car parts, says the immobiliser has been removed or turned off completely in this ecu he is selling,
need to get my car up and running and if there a good chance it would work 100% id go for it...
