not to coincide with marching season, there's a new Incubus album out next week.
The bits I have heard, I like. I suppose anyone who has been following them the last few albums will know where they are going with their sound, and it doesn't bother me, as I like good songs. I think the very early stuff, while being very good, is very derivative, and I like the last few albums as much as the older stuff.

I am a fan of the guitarist, heavy or ballady, so that's my angle....

Here are a few songs of it:

    It came out today.

Decent enough album but not their best.

A lot of the songs do not have that distinctive Incubus sound though. I also really missed a track or two that rock out like Megalomaniac or A Kiss to Send Us Off. Very light and mellow album overall, and whilst still an enjoyable listen it is certainly not a rock album.

As a related aside, there are three very good live albums on itunes from the A Crow Left of the Murder tour, with the one from Japan being very good bar the exclusion of Drive.

A better indicator of what the new album sounds like is Boyd's solo album from last year. The new album is very similar in terms of tempo and production. Similar laid back vibe as well.

Just in case you like them as well, Both Jane's Addiction (YAY) and Red Hot Chili Peppers have new albums out next month.

Not really interested in a new Chilli peppers album without Frusciante, though One Hot Minute is one of my faves by them.

Would be interested in the new Janes Addiction album.

I read bad reviews of the Brandon Boyd solo album, so in 2 minds whether to get the new incubus one or not. I thought Light Grenades was pretty good. A crow left of the murder is great though...

Loved A crow left of the murder . The new album is a long long way from that in terms of sound, and a bit of a departure from Light Grenades as well.

Adolescents is the track on the new album that sounds most like the distinctive Incubus sound. But if you liked the likes of Promises, Promises etc, then you pretty much have an idea of how the album as a whole will sound and will most likely enjoy it.

Boyd's solo album is nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews. It is very mellow and sticks out as being very West Coast in sound, but if you like his voice (which I do) then it makes for a decent listen.

Am really looking forward to the new Jane's Addiction album. I'm a long term fan of them who, unlike a lot of Jane fans, thought Strays was their best album, so I am hoping for something really good from them.

As for the RHCP, I think that this is a make or break album for them and as such they may pull out all the stops to release something good. Early reports are saying that it harks back to the funkier sound on Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic and that it is a much leaner album in terms of sound than the mostly rubbish Stadium Arcadium.

I'm a big Frusciante fan, but I think he had too much influence on SA, and the wishy washy sound on it pretty much echoes with some of his solo stuff that he recorded at the same time.

The opposite happened when they recorded By The Way as the solo stuff Frusciante was working on at that time was much edgier than his later stuff and I think he carried that mindset into the writing process for BTW.

checked out Brandon's solo album, so will prob make a purchase at some stage. I do like his voice as well...

off topic. but Scott Weilands first solo album is great...it's about 10 years old at this stage if not more...

12 Bar Blues? Decent enough album. Was at one show of it's tour in the US and it was awful live due to Weiland being off his head that night. It is far better than his follow up to it, Happy In Galoshes, which is pretty rubbish.

He is meant to be releasing a third album around Halloween.

yup, 12 bar blues, I likes it..
I heard his follow up was tripe, so steered clear. Not sure what to do about this Incubus album, get it or just get Brandon Boyds solo one, and hope Incubues rawk out some more on the next one........

The new Incubus album is much better than Boyd's solo one. I compared them as they are similar in terms of tempo and sound.

If I had to pick one of the two, then I would go with If Not Now, When?

If you are looking for a band that sounds a bit like Jane's Addiction, a bit like Incubus (bass play and drumming in particular), with a tiny bit of Rage Against The Machine chucked in on some songs, then you should check out Middle Class Rut.

Their first album No Name No Color came out late last year, and it really filled a Jane's Addiction sized hole in my listening wants at the time.

The thread still has Jane's Addiction and Middle Class Rut in it so defo in the right forum.

If Incubus had only released one album in their career and that album was the new one, then this thread would not be in the rock forum methinks, but they get in, imho, on the back of their other albums.

I take it you must have gotten the new Incubus album then? What do you think of it?

Any opinion on Middle Class Rut?

I listened to it, I didn't buy it yet. I have to stop myself buying music. I listened to Brandon's solo album too, and while it's good, I think I would prefer the Incubus album.

I also checked out Middle Class Rut. Interesting stuff. I was more interested in watching their live stuff online. Do they use samples or what? They only have one album don't they. I feel I have to check it out now, and it's join the queue along with all the other stuff I have to check out!

Have to admit, I am disappointed with this. I'm all for bands changing it up and moving on, but there isn't one rock-like number on this album. I'll still listen to it, but I won't ever love it :(

No Name No Color kicks the ass, imho, of both the new Incubus album and Boyd's album.

MCR are great live. They make a hell of a lot of noise for a two piece band. Helps that both are pretty good singers as well.

I'm actually getting bored of the new Incubus album after liking it when I first listened to it last Friday. I think the lack of a few uptempo heavier tracks is killing my interest in it. Adolescents is the only track that I think might have made it onto one of the other Incubus albums (it kinda has a similar vibe to some tracks on Morning View), the rest is pretty generic after a few listens. Good and well played but very generic.
