Just getting into cycling and buying a road racer. Should the saddle always be higher than the handlebars? I have found lots of threads on correct saddle height but was wondering if its a no no to have the handlebars positioned higher than the saddle (similar to a hybrid etc.)

Go with what feels comfortable to start with. The saddle-above-bars setup is a more aerodynamic position but it takes training to get used to. As you build your core strength, the higher handlebar position will start to feel too high and you'll start moving the handlebars down.

make sure you get the correct size frame for you first, this will then give you the room to experiment with saddle/bar height. saddle above bars is the "norm" for race bikes but again comfort is the main thing, just make sure your saddle is set to the correct height, too low or high will cause potential problems with knee/hips ankles.
