Ireland's Premier & First Divisions 2011

I think it's been a good season so far in both divisions. There's a great battle being played out at the top of the Premier. It looks to be a four horse race at the moment. In the First, Shel's are the clear leaders. The race for the second promotion spot seems to be hotting up. Cork, Monaghan and Limerick are all in the mix. Waterford look as if they are going to get involved as well. The top 2 go up with 3rd taking on the bottom side from the Premier in a play-off.

Looking at the games ahead this weekend, I can see Derry, Boh's, Sligo and maybe Pat's all winning. Shamrock Rovers could be third after the weekends action but their clash away to Derry is a hard one to call.

In the First, I can see wins for Cork and Shel's. Wexford might hold the Mon's to a draw. Waterford could have a big game in them. They need the win badly if they are to have a chance of promotion.

Derry and Shamrock Rovers will be live on tv, hopefully it'll be a good game and show the Ireland's league at it's best.

Derry v Rovers should be a good game. From the 1st Division, would like to see Shels or Cork come up, but it's a bit of a lottery, only 1 spot guaranteed. I kind of think they should merge the Premier and 1st Division, would be better for football in this country.

There's been a fair bit of conflicting information. Are you sure it's not the top 2 going up with 3rd facing a play-off? Thought the plan is to expand the Premier to 12 for 2012? Word has it the A Championship will end and non-league clubs are being invited to apply for the First Division 2012. What that means for the number of teams that'll be in the First Division next season is anyone's guess at the moment.

Pats ****ed part time football killing us but also keeping us alive.

Dont see us as a challenger but would like to push Roversssss close.

I don't see Derry v Rovers being a good game for a neutral. There's few games at the Brandywell between the two sides that aren't tight, close, cautious games going back years and years.

I can think of once in the league in the last 15 years where Rovers have scored more than 2 and not many more than one. Usually a tight 0-0/1-0 late goal..usually from Liam Coyle

    Shels. Bohs. No apostrophe.

    2 Auto up.
    3rd vs last in PD
FD is going regional, A Championship is being disbanded and there'll be two FDs, North & South probably

I can see a draw up in the Brandywell. Won't be flowing.

The cat was put among the pigeons in Derry. The game with along the lines as some had predicted. The first-half was not great. It did pick up in the second half. It was a terrible clanger by the Rovers keeper. If he had not touched the ball, it'd have been disallowed as it was an indirect free-kick that was signalled by the referee. Surely as a result it was a Mannus own goal?

The Derry goal has gone down as a Mannus own goal.

After the European adventures this week, it's back to domestic action in both divisions this weekend. If I'm betting, I'll go with Sligo, Dundalk, Derry and Shamrock all to win. Bray would be the most likely to scupper the bet. Derry 4th are only two points off Sligo 1st.

In the first, I'll back Waterford, Monaghan, Longford and Limerick all to win. Shels have a tough trip away to Harps but have been going well at the top. Harps could hold them to a draw.

We be 7 points behind leaders next time we play.

You're backing almost everyone in the top 6 to win except for us, despite our complete dominance of the league and 100% away record. Bit strange, no?

I take it you are Shels?! It's not strange at all. Teams do have off nights, Harps could have a great game. Shels will rightly be favourites but games are known to go against form at times. This could be one of them.

Yes anything can happen on the night, but surely this is the least likely by a good distance of the games you mentioned?

    Finn Harps 13/2
    Draw 3/1
    Shels 2/5

    Waterford 1/4, Mon's 2/9, Longford 1/2 and Limerick 1/2.

Least likely but it doesn't mean it won't be a draw either. Many an accie bet has been scuppered by a favourite being beat or held to a draw. Shels are going to win the division but there will be the odd blip along the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

Haprs missing McHugh, big loss up front for them - he's scored 9 of their league 14 goals this season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

They've only scored 14 goals this season, and the man who has scored 64% oif them is out injured?

legendary, I'd be changing that prediction. Shels are definitely going to win this one 0-1

You could say that about any game and you haven't backed it with why it should happen in this game.

And Topher and Des have actually put forward a fact on why it's even more unlikely to happen.

Anyway, I'm not saying any more on the subject for the fear of tempting fate. :D

We could, but hopefully we don't!:D

Players seem to be keeping their heads screwed on anyway, Deano was interviewed the other day on Shelstv.com and he said that they won't be happy till the medals are in their hands.

Thankfully I didn't have any money on it! Was just trying to get talk going on the weekend's action.
Anyways hat's off to Shel's though, good win away from home. I was surprised by Monaghan, with their recent form I didn't think they'd lose to Mervue, especially at home. Waterford was another, at home to lowly Wexford. Waterford seemed to have been going ok in recent weeks.

Awesome display by Sligo against a dreadful Galway. I hope Galway get their dire situation sorted. The 4 wins in the Premier were predictable but not Shamrock Rovers leaving it so later to win.

We've had to spend big money on our ground and now face an expensive trip to Ukraine. There are small things that supporters can do to help, everyone is happy to chip in.
Whats the problem here exactly? I suppose it'll come out with the results of the investigation..

Must be getting financial advice off Bohs...

This is how much we trust the board these days -
In the short term the club have been on to us numerous times looking for cash and we have held off.
However we seem to have a serious issue with the lights as in 6 bulbs are gone and we will be in trouble with uefa if they are not fixed by next week for our game. The company that do this work are refusing to repair them as there are monies owed to them for older work done on the pylons.
We have decided on a once off basis that we will clear the outstanding debt with this company given the fact we need the lights to play and we will discuss what we will do with future monies next week
To allay anyones fears we will be dealing with the company directly and not handing a cheque over to the club.

That's the same approach GUST were taking last season. Give money directly to creditors, not to the club. It's a sad state of affairs.

The lads on the MNS panel tonight seemed 100% sure 10th Premier will be in a promotion/relegation play-off at the end of the season with the Premier being expanded to 12 clubs next season.

I think Derry will get the win to go top tonight. It's hard to see past Drogheda in the other game. Galway really need to win if they are to have any chance, despite recent woeful results, of catching them.
In the First, Shelbourne should win at home to Salthill. The other 4 games could go either way. A home win for Limerick will be a big boost for their hopes of finishing second. Mervue with a win can go above Waterford. Longford have slipped a bit in recent weeks. If they can pull of a win at home to Cork, it'll give them an outside chance of closing back the gap but it is a very tall order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,477 ✭✭✭legendary.xix

It's back domestic action after all the European exploits. Sligo lead the way at the top. They'll be doing well to stay there after this weekend's round of action.

Shels are 10 points clear at the top. Cork lie second level on points with Monaghan and Limerick are third. I'll tip Cork tonight, though it's crazy to with Shels form and clear favourite tag, with Limerick and Monaghan keeping up the pressure on Cork.

Looking forward to going down the X tonight. It's been a while since Shels came to town. The forecast is fairly good for tonight also, which will help bring out those few extra fans, it should be City's biggest gate of the year. A must win game for City, Shels would be happy with a draw I would imagine given their lead at the top. Second place is going to be a real dogfight this year with us, Limerick and Monaghan.

Can't imagine we will be, we're better away from home than we are at home and have won every game on our travels, the lads will be fancying themselves to keep that going tonight.

GET THE FÚCK IN - a sublime performance by City had The Shed dancing in a 4-1 demolition job of Shels. City really played some beautiful stuff tonight and I honestly don't think the scoreline flattered us - it could have been more!! The Shels keeper made some very good second half saves and we hit the bar. Every corner we had we caused havoc in their defence. After a sluggish start - Shels scored early - we settled to control the game and played some stylish football. The Cockney Rebel was fantastic and Greg in the middle was simply majestic - his best game in years I thought!
    3205 - very good attendance

    Derliriously happy with the performance!

    Bring on Limerick on Monday!

Bray need a goal scorer and fast. 2-1 loss, unacceptable. Miss too many chances. Altho the ref not allowing two quick clever frees didnt help...prob would have missed the chances anyway.
