Wait for iphone 6. It will be out only a couple of months after iphone 5.

Contract or bill pay? When's your contract up? How much do you normally spend per month?

I spend very little on credit but go contract for the subsidised phone. I'm currently out of an 18 month contract and was thinking the same as you.

The way I see it is:

There are rumours that this years release may be out in September or October. It might be a minor upgrade and called the 4G rather than the 5 - with the 5 possibly being release early next year. These are all rumours and might not be true.

However, I can see the business sense it would make for Apple - release a 4G to give the impression of a new model and catch the Christmas market. Then release an iPhone 5 to 'change everything again'. Anyone that tells you they know for definite what's going to happen is probably basing their so-called facts on rumour.

Given the above information, the fact that most (if not all) iPhone 4 contracts are either 18 or 24 months long and I'm currently out of contract, I'm considering going for a 12 month contract on Meteor and getting a HTC Desire, Sony Experia Arc or Samsung Galaxy S2. The 12 month contract costs 30 euro per month and the phone will cost either 50 euro or 100 euro (for the S2).

If I do this, I'll be contract free in a year, the iPhone 5 should definately be out and any potential teething issues with the phone itself or the new iOS5 should be resolved. I can then sell on my Meteor phone and switch to iPhone - or stick with Android if it looks a better option at that time.

Edit: The phone prices above are based on ordering via FatCheese (where you get a 40 euro discount). PM me if you'd like more details.

It will be a 7 by the time you get your 6 after cancelling your order for the 5 when you decided not to go for the 4S!

This is like the early 90's when you just had to have the latest Pentium 66 MHz, no wait the 75 MHz chip in ur machine and then when they went MMX - so confusing!

look if you want to be trendy and have the latest model and all that is fine, but they released a new ipod every year for years but most of the time it was minor changes.

Fact of the matter is that the iPhone 4 is a great phone and I would really struggle to see what they would put into the next one to make it so much better than the current gen.

The phone has everything you need, decent cam, flash, very speedy and capable of doing anything you want to do.

You hit the nail on the head. As much as I'd love the next one the 4 does everything I want and more.

As above. The iPhone 4 continues to amaze me as to what it can do. A better battery would be my only item on the wish list. The next phone would want to be pretty amazing to make me buy one. Even though I'm due an upgrade at the moment I think I'll hold out til the next revision after the iPhone 4gs/iphone5, I feel that by then the iPhone 4 will be getting tired at that stage.

A lot of people will however say the same thing but as soon as the new one is released apple fever will hit them.

My advice would be to pick up a cheap iPhone 4 when the new one comes along.

Been using iphone4 and it's fine. If Apple begin to lose some of the apps I like (eg kindle with external link) and my other apps are available in the android Eco system I will ditch apple. The bigger screen will be another Apple killer. I don't think Apple actually look at the competition apRt from trying to sue them.

    Thanks for all the replies!!

    was on holiday!!

My situation is I have a iPhone 3G ( pay as you go )

it's only a 8GB so the memory is basically gone, the phone's becoming slower every day and their's so many apps I can't download off the app store because of my IOS software

I have the money to buy a new phone and because i can't live without my iPhone I'm going to need a phone with the same features or better ones i.e iPhone 4

Only thing that crosses my mind is I go out spend 600 euro on a brand new iPhone then a month later a brand new better looking phone comes out for the same price and better features.
( I know eventually their will be a better phone available )

Latest rumour is that it will be released by mid-September. Whether or not Ireland are included in the first wave, and how easy it will be to get even if we are is anybody's guess. If you can't wait until then, get the 4, if you can wait until maybe October/November then wait.

Was the iPhone 4 available in Ireland in the first wave??

No, I think it was about a month behind, but I can't be sure. I picked mine up in Belfast on the first wave release, so didn't really follow what happened down here, but from memory it was released about a month later, but not in large numbers. Given the later release date this year, maybe Apple will have an improved stock available to sell more of them in more countries during the first wave of the release though.

Ah you may as well hang on for a few weeks. If they do release an iPhone 4S or whatever with minimal increments, the iPhone 4 should be reduced in price and you'd have another option to consider.

iPhone 4 fantastic highly recommended. A few improvements will come with the iP5 but nothing too major.

I would consider buying now if the price and deal was good. But by Christmas I bet that 3 will be offering a free iP5 to new customers x 24 month contract.

One more question, how much are iPhone's when they are newly released?? ( My friend told me that when they release a new Mac Book for example the price stays the same as the old one )

They tend to be at the same price points as the current one.

well when the iPhone 5 launches then the iPhone 4 will then be reduced to a cheaper price point just like iPhone 3Gs is now.

but the iphone 4 will only be 8gb when the new one is released, ya might get lucky and pick up a 16gb or 32gb in left over stock a bit cheaper
