My Son has just gone to the US for 2 weeks so i am looking at buying a scope and getting him to bring it home for me. The budget is unforutnately farily limited so what would you all reccomend. I want to put it on my 270 for deer shooing. I am looking at Leupold VXII 3x9x40 or similar. Any other suggestions!!

Make sure the scope is on approved list. Lots of scopes not allowed to be exported from US

    Hi No6

You can pick up a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for about 390 dollars over there (About 275 euro).
    Some scope for that money!

    I had a Leupold M8 6x42. I reckon it would be a good scope on a .270.
If you go on to SWFA they have an outlet section with ex-demo scopes at the right money...

I know a guy:D,that has brought back 5 scopes on 4 diffrent occasions and has never had a problem,or a question put to him,so i wouldn't worry too much about it.
You can get a swarovski Z3 4-12 x50 with a ballistic turret for about $970 ,only scope you might ever need for about E.650.

RE the export of scopes.Simples really.Keep it Civvie!!
IOW dont buy the latest milspec hyper super scope that is being pushed as being used "by our troops, etc, etc "
Keep away from any company that is supplying the US military/Govt agencies[That means quite alot of the top marks:(],and it can be exported with not too much trouble.

As for NV.Rule of thumb is if it is active IR Gen1 scopes.[IE somthing made around the 1950s and used proably in the early days of Vietnam],and has been declared surplus,it can be expoerted no problem. As with modern passive NV,it is equal to waving a big flag saying SHOOT ME!! during daytime. There are a few units apperaing in gunstores over there, and are quite useable still for spotting scopes etc.

I've brought home 2. Wish I'd left the first one (Bushnell) behind!
But the Simmons has worked out a good buy...

    +1 and here she is!

Perhaps, the best scope per dollar is the new Burris Fullfield E1. The new reticle has side marks for windage and my favorite BDC. I just picked up yet another...

OP - take your pick. Do you plan on doing any lamping? The Zeiss may be the way to go for deer - with low light conditions and all. However, the Burris Fullfield Scopes don't sacrifice.

Another honorable mention is the Nikon Prostaff in 4-12x40mm.

Any of these scopes are grand. Their prices may be cheap, but there is nothing cheap about them.

Personally, I would go with a Burris Fullfield. Go to the links above and browse around to select the reticle you want. The Zeiss is a nice scope at $400, but I do not like the reticle they offer. If you change it, add more $'s.

    Slan.
