Thoughts on a new nightclub in Dublin

    Hi,

I used to be out in Dublin years ago on the clubbing scene - the last few years it hasn't been that great with most of us going to house parties or abroad and to the UK where the venues are better. Would Dublin benefit from a new club opening with clubbers in mind?

    All thoughts appreciated!

    Cheers

tbh until the licensing laws are changed there is little point

the last thing dublin needs is more choice. not nearly enough people going out due to the times that are in it to justify opening another club, from a financial point of view.

and as mentioned above, the current licensing laws are doing a great job of encouraging people to keep their money in their pockets and organize their own parties at home.

the only way to change the licensing laws is to lobby for it via your local elected representatives.

Thanks for the your views. I don't think it's worth while at the moment with the current licencing laws, plus the numbers are down of people going out.

The licencing laws in particular are killing things.

Agreed until these draconian licencing laws are changed (if ever:eek:) the club scene will remain stale unfortunately, Dublin needs to fall into line with other European countries.

The licencing laws aren't going to change while we continue to be a nation of alcoholics…

The UK is a nation of alcoholics (allbeit not as bad as us) yet their clubs can open all nite in most city's.

Loads of new clubs have opened, and they will continue to do so, without doing anything positive to the scene. This is because it's promoters, not club owners, that dictate the scene. Club owners just want money, and don't care about the scene. Only a new club run by the right people will do anything positive, otherwise you'll have a repeat of the Kitchen, good promoters being stifled by management.

that's interesting, because with the current state of affairs, ireland has a healthy (though obviously in recent times diminished) pub culture. i always found then minister for justice, michael mcdowell's cafe license proposal to be a brilliant idea but it was stamped out pretty ****ing quick by fianna fail. it might have been a stepping stone to more sensible alcohol consumption with the emphasis taken off getting tanked up at home then going out and consuming as many units as possible before closing time.

it might even have led to proper 4/5/6 am club licenses and we'd all be having the ****ing craic right now.

The proposed licensing law in the new Sale of Alcohol Bill, while was originally due early 2011, is to keep the off license and bar serving times the same, but keep the clubs open until 4am, which wouldn't encourage any more drinking.

Personally i'd rather see more places being able to do BYOB options and doing them properly.
