If theres one TV series i'd wish they'd repeat its Roots.

Those of you of a certain vintage must surely remember it, Kunte Kente, Chicken George, Kessy etc.

And the way they use to talk....."yesa massa" "you need a whippin boy"

Love to see it again, wish there was a channel dedicated to the classic TV dramas of the 70s & 80s.

Oh the fun we had in school with that name. :D

Groundbreaking series for its time. It was less than a decade after Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights movement.

Yeah it really was great t.v, with all the trash tv channels they have now, would you not think they could have one for classic shows from around the world pre 1999.

Was that the one that always had lots of bodice ripping between The Miss of the big house and the lads on the plantation?

Picked it up for a tenner in HMV at christmas a few years ago. It might be on offer again for the summer sales so you should check it out.

I vaguely remember it being on tv as a child-our dad didn't approve so we didn't get to watch it.
It's on True Movies every few weeks, and I still haven't had a chance to see it.
Read the book some years ago-great story, long but worthwhile read.

I remember watching Roots as a child and thinking to myself "How can people be so cruel to people?" My parents would tell us that it wasnt real and just TV at the time. They probably said this as we were too young to understand. Now, much older and know it was real, I just wish "Kunte Kinte" and all his family could have envisaged everything from Martin Luther to Barack Obama!!!

A TV station dedicated to showing all those TV series from 60's/70's/80's would be great. I'd love to see the series Colditz again.

I have the series on dvd...it was great to see it again. I remember watching it back in the day...Kunte Kinte, Kizzy and Chicken George. The overseer chopping off Kunte Kinte's foot, the 'my name is Toby' scene and Kizzy spitting in Missy Ann's soup were bits I remembered for years.

I got it for my mam last year. It was on sale in HMV. It worked out at around €12 for the series. Great bargain

This is probably a "you'd need to be there story" but a fair few years ago, we were in a bar and a mate was going on about this show that he liked from the past. He went on to explain it like this "It follows a guy from a tribe in Africa, he is captured and sold into slavery in the states, feck it, whats the name of it. I got it, it's called Seeds"

    Oh how we laughed. :D

He is trying to bribe/butter up staff who might select him to be promoted/"put on tenure"

One fond memory I have of that TV series is that it gave rise to a new term of derision.

If you didn't like someone you could describe them as a right Kunta Kinte :)

LeVar Burton - aka Geordie La Forge playing the young KunteKinte.

Got a bit of backlash recently for an ill-judged tweet about PSH death.

It was a big thing when it came out.

I was about 10 or so at the time. Everyone in my class at school was watching it.

Only one channel here for the most part & not a whole lot of other distractions at the time.

I don't think if it was released for the first time now, that it would ever have had the same impact.
