Going to Ballycastle in August and I am going to cycle up there from Arklow. Will do Arklow to Belfast in one day and Belfast to Ballycastle the Next.
I was going to take the coast road up to Bray but unsure from there the best route across Dublin and how to find the old N1. I tried looking at the maracycle route but couldnt get a detailed map. Tried walking options on google maps and it sends me via isle of man
If anyone has any suggestions or a link to a map it would be most appreciated

I got that too while trying to plot a route from Dublin to Donegal. Bizarre..

If you use mapmyride to plot a route from Bray to Swords it will get you across Dublin handy enough. The R132 is the road you want from Swords.

    http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/view/bike-ride-map/united-kingdom/belfast/18894486 is the Maracycle route.

I've gone up to south Armagh a couple of times from Swords on the bike, and this is the route I've used. Stays away from main roads as much as possible and avoids Dundalk. For most of the way the traffic is nonexistant, it's almost like riding on closed roads. Just did it again on Saturday gone with a couple of non-cycling mates and they really liked the route. Doesn't go the full way to Belfast obviously but it'll take you to the border, nice and scenic too :)

There's only one catch, there's 2 places around Dundalk where the route goes down nonexistant roads (thanks Google!) Easy enough to get around though, you just take the next turn and you're back on track.

Just cycle on the old N1 and then then A1 in the North. I'm planning on cycling Dublin-Belfast on Thursday.
