Have a date on Wednesday and need tips

So I'm 24 and gay and live in Dublin. I met a guy on Friday night who I really liked. We chatted for ages and swapped numbers but didn't kiss or anything.

He texted me over the weekend and asked if I'd go for a pints date on Wednesday so I said yes.

I'm nervous though! I have had a long term relationship in the past but since it ended 1.5 years ago, I've been quite unlucky with dating. I've had a few dates but they never seem to go anywhere. I'm not a wierdo or anything like that, can have a perfectly fine conversation and am just a normal guy so it's not like I'm one of these freaky dates from hell lol - but I just need some advice to bear in mind, top date tips I guess.

    Thanks!

Things I think are important on first dates:

Try not to be too nervous... he will probably be nervous too.
Appear interested in what he says, and ask him questions.
    Don't get too drunk.
Don't speak about your ex, or other boys you've kissed.
If you want to kiss him, do!
    Don't play games.
    HAVE FUN!!

I hope it goes well :)

Not sure you need any tips. You're nervous, so is anyone on a first date, including him, so don't sweat that. You lked each other enough to swap numbers and follow up on it, so that's a lot of the attraction issue sorted. You can have a conversation and you're not a freak, so that's a lot of the rest of the date sorted.

I feel obliged to say be yourself and it'll all be good :)

All the other tips are good and I would echo them.

One other thing I would say, and although the situation may not come up at all but just in case - bring protection with you, in the event that you really hit it off and go home together. No harm carrying some with, and just be sure if the need arises, to use the protection and be careful with alcohol fueled inhibitions.

Just have a great time and be yourself no matter might may come of it.

    Good luck.

Best of luck! Just remember that HE asked you so he obviously likes you a bit at very least.

I don't know how gay dates normally go down, but i'd imagine that thre aren't as many rules like in a straight date - e.g. a guy role and girl role. Surely this means that there is nothing expected of either party so you are free to actually be yourself (i know itts canned advice but you know what i mean...)

Have to say I love the sound of a 'pints date' though! I wish more straight girls would be up for that :P

And finally a question, if the date didn't go well i.e. no spark but ye still had common interests and whatever, could he become a friend. I mean he'd become "one of the lads" who you could go for pints with (not a pints date though!). That bit is just for my curiosity btw - no bearing on any advice I might have

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll let ye know how it goes.

    @ ssdsdgkkt:

So I'm guessing that you're a straight guy? I never thought of the differences between gay vs straight dates but I guess you're probably right that the vibe would be somewhat different. Probably a better chance of the ride at the end of a gay one actually LOL And yeah hopefully if there's so spark or whatever, he can just become a mate.
