I went to a VEC interview today, which I think went well. When I asked when would the successful candidate be informed, I was told that I wouldnt be contacted by the panel but I would be informed via letter from the VEC. Just wondering would this procedure be strictly adhered to or would the principal contact you themselves? Seems a bit crazy to be informed via letter!!

Why is it crazy? It's written proof that you have been offered the job, something that you might need in the unlikely event that you get a phone call saying sorry it's gone to someone else.

Also you are being employed by the VEC which means they can place you in any school within that VEC, you are not employed directly by the school so it will be the VEC that contacts you about the job.

Appointments also have to wait until after the next VEC committee meeting.

    Why is that relevant?

As far as I know, you would get a letter either way about the job so it's not a bad sign. This is normal. Good luck.

Has anybody interviewed for a VEC job and heard nothing? I interviewed for 3 schools within the same VEC in the last weeks of June. One offered me a job by phone that night and the contract arrived yesterday. I havent heard a thing from the others and I was really interested in one of the posts. I know from my private sector past that I would ring and ask, but Im not sure how appropriate that would be?. I presume they have had a panel meeting if I was offered one of the posts? What would you lot do?

The VEC schools are all in contact with each other, so if you have been offered a job, it is very unlikely that you will be offered the other two as they would be stepping on each other's toes. There is also the chance that one or both of those jobs could have gone to people already teaching in the schools. VECs have to do things by the book, which often means going through the interviewing procedure when somebody is already in the job.
