the Star Wars one was on in the O2, it was great. I'll probably catch this as well, Howard Shore is hardly conducting though? if he was it'd be a must see for me, love his work.

Is there any cinema that has a LOTR weekend or special showings? never seen it on the big screen and would love to.

The Screen showed all three back in March.

I can't abide the things myself, but sat through them all once again as everyone kept saying I should give them another try. Well I did, and it was excruciating. Just not my thing I suppose :)

The National Concert Hall did a similar version of Psycho which I was livid I had to miss, would dearly have loved to have seen it.

That 'Screen' viewing, do you know if it was just the theatrical editions or the extended editions?
I wonder if RTÉ television will show the actual movies to coincide. AFAIK they haven't been shown on Irish television ever and Ten years on from the theatrical release of Fellowship that's a bit of a disgrace.
I realise that they aren't everyone's cup of tea but to be fair they are one of those landmark film events like Star Wars and Back To The Future were in their time.
I would love to go see this but €40 to €70 a ticket is a bit out of my budget.

    This too shall pass.

Remember it being asked at the time, not sure what the answer was I'm afraid.

The cinema are on Twitter though and if you ask them there, they will always reply:

Bought my tickets for this the other day and really cannot wait!

Some of my favourite music, my favourite films and a live orchestra so it should be good if a little on the pricey side (I went for the cheapest I could get so will be in the upper circle, although right at the front of it so not too bad either).

Went to see something similar in the past when they were showing Metropolis in the NCH and thoroughly enjoyed that and this should hopefully be even better.

Spotted this myself and my nerdy side rejoiced!!

We went to the showings of the LOTR films in the screen, pity it wasn't the extended versions but was really great to see them on the big screen again, just bought Empire magazine, seeing Gandalf on the cover has upped the anticipation!

Man the tickets are v pricey (most seating is €75 including booking fee) but this is something i can't miss; i'll be kicking myself for years to come if I didn't go. Live orchestra w/ a film isn't everyone's cup of tea, in fact it's not many people's cup of tea. But for people who love performance, beautiful classical music, and Lord of the Rings, it's gonna be fantastic. My gut is that most people wouldn't care for the difference between watching the film and having the orchestra played live so it wouldn't be worth it. Seeing just how intricate the score is....just amazing.

I'd say it'll be a bigger-budget version of the Psycho screening/orchestra last year. I gotta mention that i have friends that are star wars and LOTR fans but don't care to see these versions. Probably something u already know if you're going to enjoy it or not. If you haven't seen the film (like my bro, lol) this'd be a fantastic introduction. Only problem is the price.

Star Wars was fantastic; although i wish they spent more time on Episode 3 (my favourite OST) seeing the different sections playing; and the accompanying video footage was really cool. Music, the one part of star wars that is just always spectacular.

I think they have a choir and everything so it's definitely going to be slightly bigger budget than Psycho was.

Silly question but can you hear the actors voices or is it just music all through.

    Quite the understatement.

    Quite the understatement.

It's a viable question to ask when tickets are not cheap and it'd be a dealbreaker.

Yes, they'll play the film on a screen, which has just the dialogue and sound effects; and the live orchestra will play the score in time with the film. It's gonna be fantastic.

Cheers. I love the soundtrack and it would be nice to see the film on the big screen again. I think I might go for the expensive seats:)

Posted in the Classics @ The Cinema thread already, but Casablanca will be getting similar treatment in August at the National Concert Hall.
