Romeo 205 (Air Corp 172) Passed over Drogheda routing around the Dublin Zone to Bal about an hour ago with what looked like a windsock sitting on the fuselage ( between the rear window and the tail), any one got any ideas what the hell was "stuck to it", Looked like it had 1st stage flaps out too,
    Any thoughts?

what you saw was a target thats let out behind the aircraft and towed for anti aircraft practice by army units mainly, however the PC-9s use them for air to air shooting sometimes also..

Probably up in Gormanston getting shot at some RDF unit on annual camp. I remember the the 2nd Anti Aircraft unit on camp firing at the drogue back in 1979 with GPMGs. Whatever happened to them. Where they disbanded? I don't think they ever actually fired those Bofors guns of theirs.
