Spoiled for choice with contenders but my personal 'favourite' is Sinead Desmond on Orrland AM. Special mentions go to Murriam O'Callaghan and Royle Nugent.

Not so much D4 but TV3 accents get on my goat . The reporters all over emphasize the letter T and it bugs me
as in " Itt getttts on my goatttt "

Better than leaving it out of words. Like when 'Right' becomes 'Roish'

That's not D4, that's just Irish. Rachel Allen has to be the worst offender. Ever hear her try and say "jug"? -> "Jag".

Had to laugh at the George Hook mention.

Cant understand his having a heart-attack style of speech, nevermind hear his accent.

That's how many Irish-speakers pronounce it. Gorda / Gordee

..but yes, her accent is a bit annoying.

I would not call that a D4 accent though. Its a horrific hybrid alright.

Does Ken Early on Newstalk count as a D4 accent?

No. Thats not a D4 accent in fairness to him. His accent is ok.

I dunno if it's D4 or not but what really get on my wick is when they pronounce words like cow as kai or now as nai...I have to say it's mostly the girls. I'd love to know is this just a radio thing or do real people talk like this.

Another thing, which isn't an accent but bugs the life out of me is when you get these shams talking like there just on the verge of cracking up laughing, and they're not even saying anything funny!!!!

It's the likes of that which makes it hard for me to listen to the radio too long.

Rachel Allen in that O'Briens ad makes me cringe, as does listening to Miriam on the radio.

Just don't understand where this affected accent comes from.

    And George Hook.

    Hook's from Cork,

McDevitt's got a northside Dub twang, Early has a fairly neutral SoDub accent, Murph's a culch.

    Hook's from Cork,

No Cork accent though. I've often noted him say that he changed it on purpose to fit in to his D4 surroundings.

That's an accent acquired at Alexandra College, Milltown. Rachael Allen was educated there. Thankfully, it's a localised oddity, an affliction borne only by pupils past and present.

    Sloane Square meets Rathgar.

It can be subtle at times, but there's a lot of the Cork lilt still clearly audible in his accent, even aside from his frequent use of the city's vernacular, it ain't too hard to identify if you can bear listening at length.

Hook, by his own admission, went out of his way to change his accent. If you didnt know his place of birth you'd never guess where he was from. Compare him with Eddie Hobbs for instance.

Hook does not have a true D4 accent by any means, he does not have a Cork accent either. As I said, he's from Cork but dosent have the accent.
