I was looking at penalty point statistics, and noticed last month there were 2 incidents of "Fail to obey rules at railway level crossing" in Donegal, was wondering where the level crossing(s) is (are)?

Fintown Railway http://www.antraen.com/ / but I don't think they have any LCs. What about Sir Gerry Robinson's private railway near Raphoe - I'm pretty sure he has a couple of crossings http://www.oakfieldpark.com/ :D

There are no operating railways in Co. Donegal that I am aware of.
There are two private railways in Co. Donegal that I am aware of. :)

Does the location in the stats breakdown refer to the location of the incident, the residency of the offender or the location of the court in which the case was dealt with?

There are also some (probably no longer used) bog railways, not BNM owned, in Donegal.

However I'd guess its Donegal-resident licence holders and the offence happened elsewhere.

That's probably it MYOB. But I wonder...could that rule apply to LCs on the many dismantled railways that snaked around the county? Do any of those original LCs even exist anymore? (Beyond those small private operations).

There's plenty on Irish Rail's closed network, from the fully automated one on the Kingscourt line through to collapsed gates on the Castleisland branch

Google Maps has no obvious link option anymore, however, so I can't give examples!

In google maps if you right click and select "what's here" it will give you a number like this in the search bar 52.607622,-9.091296. People can then copy and paste that number into the search bar to go there. A link option would be much easier though.

Where a line has been closed and formally abandoned, the level crossing will no longer exist so the laws relating to railways won't apply at these locations. For crossings on lines that are closed but still in situ such as Kingscourt or the WRC, the laws apply to them but as they are unused there won't be a need for the law to be applied to them, save for maybe parking on the crossing place.

Where abouts in Donegal can I see the disused bog railways? Thanks

Also take a look at this idea on Facebook: its an idea for Donegal railways but its not there yet and have a read of the attached short paper on the idea - its only two sides of A4 about 600 words quick read and forward to any politicians decision makers or influencers you might know.

It most certainly is not there yet, it wholly ignores the existing and fairly extensive work done on the Glenties branch from Fintown by the preservation society there.

The county refers to the motor tax authority that issued the driver's licence.

Which the writer of the paper I posted is well aware and why he says in the final paragraph of the short paper, it is intended as a discussion paper and please do read the final sentence:
"The development of the Donegal Greenway or the North Western Greenway requires support from Donegal County Council, the Railway Heritage Groups, Derry CC, Strabane DC and the two governments."

the idea is to work on developing greenways in Donegal alongside the work being done by the railway heritage groups, there is no desire for war with the heritage groups but to develop tourism with them, even the heritage groups would admit that they could not open up the amount of greenway being proposed in the document as heritage railway - are they? For example look at the photos posted of the Derry to Strabane line:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.139987366078761.34687.131984266879071 then look at this album of photos which includes some railway heritage line - there is no suggestion that the heritage line will be taken over as greenway http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.131985250212306.31331.131984266879071
