Eating refrozen ice cream....

    Hello,

I ate half a tub of ice cream last week, stuck it back in the freezer and just started eating it again.

    Good idea/terrible idea?

I've had a few mouthfuls so far. If I'm going to get E Coli poisoning and the damage is already done should I just finish off the ice cream anyway. Might as well enjoy it while I can.

The thing is, it's so tasty I keep eating it even as I'm debating going over to throw it in the bin.

Did it thaw the first time?

Either way, I wouldn't be worried about this. Trust your eyes, tongue and your nose when it comes to things like this. I've often eaten refrozen ice cream and never had to think twice.

The worst your probably going to get is the taste of ice crystals due to the re-freezing.

How long would it take to kick in if I was going to get sick?

If you ate a raw breast of chicken how long would it take before you got sick?

It wasn't very defrosted - it was still really cold. I ate it all anyway. Yum.

It was the fake Ben and Jerry's style stuff from Aldi. Think it costs €2.50...or is it a fiver? Highly recommended.

You might not even get sick at all, I have eaten raw chicken in fajitas and stuff before (I didn't realise it was raw in the middle!) and I was fine. Most people are way too scared of meat!

I know you might not, but I'm wondering if you were going to get sick, how long it would take.?

    No it doesn't!
Re-freezing icecream is one of the most dangerous things you can do.
Google it if you don't believe me.
I'm a chef and would NEVER serve it.

Jeez OP, you are a brave soul.

I would rather wear a KKK outfit to a hip hop festival then eat re-frozen ice cream. May be time to get you affairs in order.

    Good luck.

    I feel sick.

Thats only because you pigged out on all the
ice cream yourself without sharing it with us.

    Serves you right.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35,514 ✭✭✭✭efb

Well all ice-cream refrozen does is give you those horrible big ice crystals.
this would be sub par to serve in a restaurant.
If it ain't meat, it's no real danger.

I told you, it was only half a tub. 250ml. Sure that's nothin'!

Doesn't sound dangerous at all. Maybe eating refrozen ice cream is what you meant. :)

What if you ate refrozen ice cream while doing a bungee jump down a shaft in the mine you work in?

Food poisoning can rarely be seen, tasted or smelled. (In this case, though, there's no risk unless you left the icecream in the sun for a few hours before refreezin it - unless it was a warm liquid when you put in the freezer you're fine)

Oh yeah OP, its right up there with going out in the sun without a hat, nuclear war, spontaneous picnics, and eating yoghurt that is past its use-by date!

You're fúcked if it was thawed out, as in a liquid and then refrozen.

Jesus Christ, people are so paranoid these days. If you're going to be this careful about what you eat may as well not have a freezer and buy all your food fresh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,221 ✭✭✭Greentopia

My second cousin's boyfriend's auntie bought a Flurry once in McDonalds that was re-frozen and now she's ded.
    True story.
NEVER eat re-frozen ice-cream kids as it will make you ded.

    The end.

But refrozen (implying it has thawed out previously) ice cream gives you major cramps and awful, murderous shíts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

But refrozen ice-cream is horrible. It looses that smooth texture and you get that nasty crystaline texture instead. And it damages the taste also.

Refrozen ice cream actually takes a long time to kill a person.

Expect to drop dead in 40 or 50 years.
