Tonight at 7pm on RTE2 if you can't get to Pearse Stadium. Hoping for a big Galway performance but a betting man's money is on Clare. Hoping that it's a thriller between us neighbours.

Yep, a lot of hoping in Galway atm

I'm a Galway man living in Ennis and I would have to hide for a while if Clare beat us :). The fact that its played in Pearse stadium might just swing it our way hopefully. Galway by 1 or 2 points.

Clare should take heart from the performance against Tipp, some silly mistakes led to goals, but generally it was more encouraging than of late. If we can win in Galway it would be a great filip for a young team.

    Come on The Banner!!

Providing we come into this game with the right mindset, unlike against Dublin last year, we could cause an upset. Galway, crazily, are seen as the underdogs today. I think not. The pressure is on them to perform, granted, but there is an equal amount of pressure on our young side to win today.

Either way, I am hoping for a great match! C'mon the BANNER!!

I don't care what the bookies say, my gut feeling is Galway will win today. :(

Don't know what to make of this match.. If Galway lose I think it could be MacIntyre's last game in charge, he really has to go past the semi's this year to secure his future. Hopefully though we'll pull something out of the blue, the game will be won and lost in each of the full-forward lines me thinks, and this is why I think Galway will win.. Not too confident though :(

I can't see this being tight.

In my view, it will either be an unbelievable retaliation to the negative comments in the press, and public, by Galway or Clare will beat a whimpering Galway by 5 or 6 points.

If I wish for one thing, it's a bit of fight out of Galway. Who knows, maybe today is the day that some of the Galway lads finally realise that they can no longer live off unwarranted hype and actually have to deliver something. The people of Galway have had enough of it by the sounds of it.

Then again, how many times have we had such optomistic notions in the past?

    Head = wrecked/frustrated.

Galway should win this given the changes they've made. Clare's best hope is to catch them cold at the start of the game and hope the demons sneak into the Galway mindset. A start like they had against Tipp would ask a lot of questions of Galway. But I think Galway will click into gear tonight.

    Hayes you beauty.

    Galway's campaign begins tonight.

Westmeath and Dublin were just warm up games. :)

Looks like Galway are going to click into gear tonight. Barring a meltdown they should see this out comfortably. Clare are wide open at the back, same as in the Tipp game. More goals for Galway tonight.

The Clare full back line isn't inter-county class.

What're the odds Galway bottle it and Clare catch up in the second half? :pac:

    Saying that, C'MON GALWAY.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,184 ✭✭✭✭Lapin

Clare have woken up and starting to make a game of it.

Galway still look hungrier and the players appear to be playing for their places.

Good point there from Joe Canning. Huge improvement from his Tullamore nightmare.

A few mistakes from Iarla Tannian though.

Galway forwards having a field day, the Clare FB line is shocking.

Canning's goal was sensational, lovely stick work.

3 today, 3 against Tipp and 4 against Limerick. Pathetic!

    I'm no expert but...

If this was a first round game, I'd be SATISFIED with Galway's first pass, execution, first touch, awareness etc.

However, given that we should be coming on to the pitch with rage, hammering every individual on the opposing team etc, I'm less heartened.

On the face of it, it appears that we're playing quite well. But, most of the play is within 70% of the pitch, the other 30% being the outermost band along the sidelines and ends. In a high-tempo game against the lies of Tipp or Kilkenny, every part of the pitch would be utilised simply by the spread created by the...high-tempo.

I think that Clare are like we were against Dublin (from what I saw). i.e lack of ideas, fear of making a mistake, general ineptness.

However, I would not be one bit surprised if Clare came well back into this and even brought it close towards the end.

That's how bizarre it is to be a Galway supporter. You never know what's going to happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭coffeelover

FB line is absolutely disgraceful.. Clare have to come back fighting and get a goal to have a chance of winning :(

I'm at the match but I didn't get a good view of the sending off, was it bad?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kraggy

I'm watching an internet feed so the picture quality isn't great (thanks to those who told me about it though, really appreciate it).

But am I right in saying that that strike was to the head of Joe Canning?

I really couldn't say for sure with the pic quality but it seemed so. If that's the case, surely a long ban?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,709 ✭✭✭shrewdness

Clare man pulled full force on Canning's head, breaking his hurl over it if I remember right. Absolutely disgraceful act, throw the book at him.

Twas bad alrite. deserved the red. Im disappointed thought we'd fightback in the second half, will be next nigh impossible a man down

Went for a leak and missed the 'tackle'!

This is really a training game now. Galway should bring on a few subs now.

Gantley certainly got caught late there.

    Twas.

A very deilberate hack. Actually looked worse in the replay on TV.

    McInerney had to walk.

Another vicious attack on Gantly just there.

    Clare are gettin bould now.

More scouting will need to happen in Clare for full backs if they're going to compete with the big boys.

Sending off was the worst i've seen for a very long time. Did that in the street you'd be spending 18 months behind bars.

    Why?

    Revenge for '99.

McInerney's pull was one of the worst for some time- the way he deliberately turned the hurl on its edge and swung like an axe viciously, he could have broken Joe Canning's collar-bone easily... wasn't he in L.I.T. with Joe? I'd say there'll be no contact for a while!! Good win for Galway by the way

Haha. Clare have really gone to the dogs in the hurling. They got beat out the gates last year by Dublin and they took another stuffing today.
