    Hi.

I'm looking for a basic laptop for my brother. He did have a Toshiba netbook but the keyboard and screen have now given up the ghost, the first to a spill and the second to a drop.

He'll be starting college next year, so I want to get him something that can keep up with basic media and can output to a secondary screen as he does use it to play movies. He'd also prefer a small form factor. I was thinking between 11 and 13 inches, as decent a processor as €400 will get, and I can always do upgrades myself later for RAM and HDD.

Also Win7 Starter is a no go. I'm not paying €300 for a crap laptop and another €80 to make it usable when I can get a much less crap laptop for the €380.

Currently I've checked Dabs, Elara, E-Buyer, Komplett, Argos, Pixmania, and have found plenty of really good 15.6" laptops but nothing decent under it. Argos (UK) are running a free upgrade to Win7 Premium on netbooks until the 5th, but the Irish site isn't.

    Anything good out there?

    You only need one site

    www.saveonlaptops.co.uk

I'd recommend this, 13.3 inch screen, no win 7 starter bollox, 8 hour battery (realistically 5 to 6 hours with decent usage), good reviews etc
    http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS_UL30A-QX328V_1068303.html

Otherwise, just browse the site, pretty unbeatable price wise, and 10 sterling delivery to Ireland (just use Ireland as postcode)

If you decide on something, always google legit reviews or look it up on amazon, no point buying a laptop with an awesome processor that has an absolutely ****e trackpad, etc.

Lol this isn't my first time buying, but thanks for the advice anyhow. My safe bet was a Toshiba with a 6670. Decent dual core if outdated, and the rest was Tosh regular fare, ie boring but sturdy. Thanks for the recommendation, can't believe I missed it.

Went for the ASUS, it's perfect, 2 year warranty on top, I love ASUS :D
