I wasn't particularly inclined to vote for the man over anyone else at the start of the race but the more bile and vitriol these types of campaigns spit at the man the more I am inclined to vote for him.

You should be commended for such logic

Is it too hard to expect an honest Christian these days?

Mr. Enoch Burke isn't afraid of publishing such things, anyway. He openly gives his Facebook page, his address and contact number.

Judging from this and his other website (campaignforconscience.org) he appears to be a total bigot. What's scary is I'd thought people such as this weren't all that common, or at least vocal, in Ireland; I mean, he's not as bad as Westborough Baptist Church--the only difference between him and them being his slight tact.

Quick lightening Google threw up this.
he placard holders are members of one big family. When challenged by a pinstriped cyclist, 21-year-old Enoch Burke takes him on. “Well, where does Aids begin?” asks Enoch, following up with HIV figures from St James’s Hospital, to “prove” that homosexuals started it. “God help you,” says the cyclist mournfully. Enoch, who declined a place in medicine at University College Galway, is one of 10 children – all with biblical names – of Sean and Martina Burke from Castlebar, Co Mayo.

His brother Isaac is in third-year science in Galway. Esther is working for her HDip. Ammi hopes to study languages. The family belong to no particular sect. “We’re just a Christian church,” says Martina.

How do she and Sean find the time to support their large family and stand all day outside Leinster House? Sean, she says, was a qualified electrician, “and does a lot of different things now”. Martina, a qualified secondary teacher, “still does private tuition” for exam students. “Of course there are a thousand other things we could be doing. I could cry coming up,” she says, “but there’s a lot of unrest in the country, and the politicians are not representing the people.”

The Bible sustains them on the three- to four-hour drive from Castlebar two or three days a week, before they stand tall with their placards for up to nine hours a day.

I'll confess I haven't read the full article yet, nor am I going to. That is one ****ed up well intentioned family.

That site is pathetic. Truly pathetic. I almost pity the people who set it up, for their screw-up, limited, narrow-minded view of this world we live in.

Prominent member of the Church of Ireland. Will his religious views be an issue for the A&A forum?

Are some looking for an atheist candidate?
    Genuinely asking here

I doubt he would have many fans around here as he is a dedicated Christian.

This might come as a shock to some people but many atheists do - take a deep breath - like some Christians. Kenneth Miller for instance is a hero to me. JD Barrow, is another person I like. There are even some Christians posters who I like reading. In Norris' case, I'm apathetic to Irish politics so couldn't really give a **** either way.

    Did you expect loaded rhetoric?

I don't really care much for who becomes President. It won't have any tangible effect on either the country or me. The only reason I posted was because of your generalisation.

And from listening to him speak, methinks we have a serious case of "the lady doth protest too much". :pac:

Ah you see when it's working well politics is not supposed to be about politics:
A good president will bring personality to Phoenix Park and keep politics out.

OP: That's months old. Elections are really simple, just vote for the person who you think is best for the job based on their credentials.

There are quite a few gems on that site. Here's my favourite though:

"Furthermore, statistics also show that there are very high rates of sexual promiscuity among the homosexual population, with many of them having up to ten thousand partners in a lifetime."

This would require a person to have a different sexual partner once per day, every day, for almost thirty years.

From what I've heard, the gays are constantly trying to recruit, so there has to be a recruitment centre or something like that near you.

I wouldn't recommend it though. I signed up and I haven't even gotten a copy of this agenda I keep hearing about.

During a TV3 interview last August, This is... With Ursula Halligan, David Norris claimed that “the worst homophobia comes from the Christian churches.”
statistics also show that there are very high rates of sexual promiscuity among the homosexual population, with many of them having up to ten thousand partners in a lifetime.
“principled objection” would be a far better term than the more derogatory and misleading “homophobic,”

Principled objection is the greatest euphemism I've ever heard in my life.

Well I'm voting for the man for a few reasons....

    1) I like him. He's a witty, funny guy I had the pleasure to meet when I was in college.

    2) Having a gay man as the president of our country would show a lot of countries that, despite the historical catholic mindset, we Irish are one of the most progressive types in the world - something I have a strong belief in.

    3) I think he would be excellent in representing our nation to other countries across the globe.

Well seen as Smokie chimed in. Here's my two cent.

The President of Ireland is really an unimportant position and so if we can help the cause of LGBT worldwide by having an openly gay President. Then I'll vote for him. Unless of course someone can point out my ignorance and show how the President is an important position.:D

    Homosexuality is...

    5. Is a lifestyle for which there is no genetic evidence.

    That's a beautifully meaningless sentence.
