Hello, I'm looking at buying a second hand Opel Zafira and have narrowed my online search down to 3 cars all 2007

    1. 2007, Design model top spec, 97,000 miles, 3 mths warranty, €7k approx
    2. 2007, Life model i.e basic opel, 62,000 miles, 3 mths warranty, €7,700
    3. 2007, Club model i.e mid range, 37,500 miles, 12 mths warranty, €11,000 approx

As you can see there is a big range of prices here. I guess in all instances I'd be hoping to bargain a bit off the price for cash payment.

Basically can anyone advise on how valuable low mileage would be. It seems a bit expensive to me to pay €4k more even with the low mileage on option 3.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

What engine are you looking at?

If they are diesels, then chances are a low mileage car will give more trouble - if modern diesels get driven around town a lot, then you can have trouble with the DPF (assuming the Zafira from that vintage is fitted with such a thing) or the EGR valve.

A higher mileage car will probably have done a lot of motorway driving, which modern diesels like a lot.

I wouldn't bother with the petrols - we once had a 1.8 petrol and it was as dead as a maggot, so I shudder to think how the 1.6 manages outside of town driving. A diesel will have lots of torque at low revs, so it will be much better, especially when fully laden.

Also, the 1.6 petrols are prone to head gasket failure (as are a lot of petrol engined Opels).

Try and get at least a Club model - I believe the Life does not have air conditioning which is absolutely essential in a car with so much glass. You'll still be baking in it on even a relatively warm day if you don't have a/c!

The Design has nice things like an auto dimming rear view mirror, and rain sensing wipers, amongst other creature comforts.
