    hi guys

im moving jobs and my contract says an employee or employer can terminate the contract using the minimum requirement act which says that anyone with 2-5 yrs service needs to give 2 weeks notice. i fall under this category. would ye feel bad not giving 4 weeks notice? my new employer wants me to start a.s.a.p but i dont want to burn bridges

at the end of the day if my contract says 2 weeks, then its 2 weeks. right ?

Can you ask someone in HR?Just explain what is in your contract and that you don't want to leave them in the lurch, and they'll probably be fine with that. Would suggest to them rather than just tell them, makes it less awkward.

Most places would think it responsible of you, it reflects positively on your commitment to the company. Whats to say you wouldnt just get up and leave them with only two weeks notice.

You are quite correct the notice period required of both employer and employee is either that set out in statute in this case the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973 or a longer period if set out in the contract of employment.

In your case, your contract specifically refers to the legislation, therefore that is the period that you are required to give.
