Hi guys, I'm looking for a <~E900 laptop as I start college in September. (Comp Sci.) I hope to have one that will be able to handle any college programs I will need as well as play some games (Mainly SC2, perhaps some FPSs too). I'd like to have this laptop for the next 4 years if possible.

I was looking at some of the ones on ibuypower.com and was thinking maybe the CZ-12 [2] or the P151HM1. What do you guys think of them or would you sugest something else? Perhaps an ASUS from xoticpc.com either, opinions?

Also, do any of you have experience with ordering from the US?

    Thanks.

For a start ordering from the US will be pricey. Delivery will be expensive and you'll get stunk by customs for about 25% of the total purchase price, if not more.

Is it really that bad with how weak the dollar is at the moment?

Like I can't find most laptops on Irish sites since we have nothing like newegg...

It has nothing to do with the exchange rate. When you purchase something from outside the EU you have to pay customs duty and vat on it when it enters the EU. Keep your purchase within the EU and you won't have to pay customs and vat on it.

Saveonlaptops.co.uk is where most of the boardsies are going these days for fairly well priced laptops and only 10 euro delivery.
Personally il be getting a Dell xps 15 in the next couple of weeks, can start from 629 and go all the way to 1500 euro, but with deals and vouchers on Dell.ie and the build quality it's probebly the best budget multimedia laptop around.

Just looking at these laptops on the above site, it seems that your euro goes much further on an American site...

Does marking the package as a gift serve to avoid duties and taxes?

Customs and VAT can absolutely shaft you, they can take the "full" retail price of the item and start adding on large percentages - I mean you can take the risk, but its just a no-no or we'd all be ordering from the States

As far as gaming laptops go, the MSI's are alright

Do a bit of research anyway, unfortunately the price of a proper gaming laptop starts to put you in reach of a definite gaming compact desktop (550+ euros) PLUS a cheap laptop (300+ euros)
