Advice for (possible) first time welfare claimant

    Hi all,

Mods if this is the wrong place please feel free to move but this seemed the most obvious place for me to put it.

Ok so my situation is that today is my last day working in a job I have held for 14 years. I am being made redundant, not sacked. I have never been on the dole and I really haven't got a clue what I should be doing.

Would anybody be able to offer any advice regarding when I should go to the welfare office? What do I need to bring with me and roughly how long does it take for a claim to go through.

I am hoping that I might be able to get another job and this will not be necessary but given our current Economic situation I am being a realist in that I know I may not get any job at all for a while.

Any advice is appreciated and thanks for reading.

    Steo

EDIT: Oh and I will not have any PC access for a few days after today so if after 5PM today people post and I don't respond it is because of this. I will be sorting out my net access at home over the weekend I hope though it may just be prepay BB for a while,
