Computer bikes

    Does anybody remember these or is my head playing tricks with me!!! These were a bit of a craze in the late 80's. Basically they were your average bike with some additional features, can't remember much more than that to be honest but can remember a lad that wen't to the same school as me getting one and it was the ealk of the place!!!!

    Or am I only imagining things!!!!!

    They were white weren't they?

    Basically a bmx with white plastic cladding with a control panel on the crossbar.

    No idea what it controlled though! :D

    Yea they came in white and black as far as i can remember. You're spot on come to remember it now I can remember the plastic around the frame of the bike but can't remember much more.

    Okay! So my good friend Mr Google tells me it was a Raleigh Vektar and the computer was a sound generator!!!!

    My cousin had one, or at least something very similar. Used to be rows over how long we could use it for!

    My brother had one too. I remember he proudly rode it up to the shops on his first day and all the local scumbags that you usually get hanging outside neighbourhood shops started laughing at him, so he came home and removed all the gizmos and mud-guards to make it resemble a normal bike.

    I think Vektar was trying to be the Knight Rider of bikes as people were mad into that concept at the time. However that sort of stuff should probably be concealed under your dashboard and not in plain view.

    I hear the call :), yes a great bike the raleigh vektar, even if I say so myself;), they came in a few different colours, red, slate grey and black, they were very expensive when raleigh released them so quite rare to-day as not too many were sold.
