Which road bike?

Was thinking of buying 2 road bikes. One for me and one for the missus. These would be our first bikes, so nothing too fancy. The main journey we'd be doing is 6 mile each way on decent(ish) roads.

I have 1,500 euro here Im kinda hoping to get up and going with that. We arent looking to get into cycling as a hobby at all. Simply, its for getting from A to B and thats it. We wont be racing, we wont be going for a cycle just for the sake of it, and the bikes definitely dont need to have all the latest and greatest gear, or be appealing to the eye. So any recommendations would be great.

If you don't care about cycling and just want something that rolls along, just buy a couple of Carrera Subways from Halfords, some Kryptonite u-locks and keep the change.
