Just wondering what online photo-sharing website people would recommend for a wedding? (120guests so how much memory required)

I would like to send out a user-name and password with the invitations so guests can upload/share their snaps. I dislike facebook for various reasons.
This will be separate to the professional photographer.

I've been reading online reviews on toptenreviews.com but i'am none the wiser.

Would be great to get some advise on here.

    Thanks

Pix.ie is Irish based, and will give you everything you listed

They provide an email link for friends and families to view the photos, and if your stuck for storage, the guys will always help you out by giving you a bit of an increase :)

Not sure thats appropriate for the 20/30 people that may like to share their snaps. by the looks of it 'dropbox' would require people to download the dropbox software.

I have a similar concern with picasa.
flickr doesn't seem to allow enough space.

So i'am just down to pix.ie and photobucket.

one of the reasons i dislike facebook as i dont feel the need to share my life with the WWW. I would find it strange when someone puts up photo's of their newborn babies for example. just my opinion... each to their own.

Pix.ie is far superior to Photobucket, which I stopped using long ago because of its unintuitive interface. Just found it annoying to navigate through my photos.

pix.ie is fast because it is hosted in Ireland.
    It is free.
It is well supported in these forums.

Hard to beat for the price.

pix.ie as regular users. Just tag the photos with a unique tag like #wedding01072011

    simples.

If I'm reading this right, it's your wedding and you want all the guests to upload all their photos to one (pix.ie) account

The main concern I can see with this is, nobody has control (or rather, regulation) over their own photos. What's to stop anyone (including the OP) downloading and printing photos for separate albums, etc - which if it isn't obvious, breaks copyright laws.

    Correct.

would there really be copyright issues of photo's taken at my private event?

if someone didn't want you to print their images you would have a copyright issue.

However if you ask guests to upload for you to print then they are giving your rights to print.

Each image is copyright of the photographer whether its taken at a private event or public event so you would need permission to print or use it commercially..... so if they are willing to upload (given the terms/conditions - ie. you have right to print) ...they are accepting terms/conditions and giving you right.

best way to do it is give everyone the username/password and let them upload ....make sure you tell them you might want to print the images off so if they upload they are allowing you to print.

    Yes.

Your private event affords you no additional rights. It's those that take the photographs who own the rights to the image, but as pcphoto says, invite them to upload in the full knowledge that what they upload you'd like to keep/own/have the right to reproduce in print form. Then you should be covered or at least have a reasonable defense if ever needed. Pop it in the small print on the back of your invitations or on a printed sheet going out with the invitations giving them all the detail.

That said, this is a wedding (yours?), and if a guest had issues about you using images that they take of the day then i'd be blown over and society may as well shut up shop if we've come to that. So I don't think it will be a problem.

If you are inviting a photographer(s) then it might be worthwhile explicitly inviting them to take photos and upload in the knowledge that you'd like to have the option to use/print any images. If they object, they just don't upload. Not explicitly required, but it might be worthwhile pursuing.

i really dont think there will be any copyright or commercial value here.
not like the pic's will be appearing in the gossip magazines.

must realise that i'am in a photography forum and all you guys take it very seriously. If there would be 1 guest that takes it to the same level as you guys that would be alot!

I've started to experiment with pix.ie as its an obvious favourite on here.
(bit of a shame when viewing an album that the bottom of the pic is cut off)

I know it's not quite what you asked for, but what about just using email?

gmail is up to about 8gb storage now, you could set up a dedicated address and everyone could just send them there. It makes no difference to their time/bandwidth as an upload is an upload.

You can then filter out the better ones and put them up on flickr or wherever you fancy for sharing, that way you avoid all of the 'trash' being posted as well.

    Just a thought :)

Use pix.ie, and just give people the link to the photos, and the email address for uploading photos.

Emailing is more straight forward for most people.

If too many people have the login details, they may be tempted to delete the embarressing photos of themselves, and those are often the best ones. :-)

If people email them to the pix.ie accout, then you could continually edit/sort the photos into albums, i.e best of, family groups, church, hotel etc.

Picasa, and flickr are quite restrictive storage wise, where the pix.ie limit is higher, but it would be good if people only sent in their best photos, and resize them if possible.

    That's easy, You can't.

If the account is only for one wedding, you can pick a photo as the accounts profile image.

If there are no votes on any of the photos, just vote on an image yourself and it will become the album cover.
