Can't they do anything right ??

    Eyes .... hurting

I think they use the same crowd that build the Vodafone website ? ;)

It seems to be lower resolution too. Even when i zoomed in using ctrl+ it still seems small/hard to read!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,466 ✭✭✭Lumi

Its really difficult to read - horrible! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,074 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

Pretty similar to uk met radar, it's a bit annoying but it's new so I'll give them a chance to tweek before I slate them.:)

I think they need to make the image bigger as one has to look very intently to see what the rain and the area one is in.

Checks my phone to compare...not too bad on the iPhone as you can easily enlarge the image.

Looks like the change has stopped others from using it ie . iPhone apps that linked to the old one :(

The "Irish Weather" app will crash if radar view is now selected..hope they have a fix soon ..handy little app

There was a guy who posted about a gadget for one's PC or laptop, you know the things along the side of the screen, well it is still using the old radar :D

Impossible to see where the showers are on that new radar, why dont they make the country all one color like the UK radar, Country brown and at least you can see where the rain is.

Have to say I don't like it. Something about the contrast of colours with the white background makes it uncomfortable to look at.

I think if they made it larger or gave the ability to zoom that would improve it a lot I think.

I do like the ability to move the frames forward/backward though.

Yes, eyes really hurting. That blurring of one frame into another is insane, like pulsating blurred vision

And its only showing Shannon radar, Dublin appears to have gone AWOL again.

Think you should make this thread a POLL ... , i certainly don't like it either, whoever did it doesnt know the colour circle!

Straining my eyes trying to concentrate on it.

It's very appropriate that the Dublin radar in down for the launch!

I must say the one they had was perfect, why fix ruin it? At least it's better than the pre 2008 radar display, it was like you had 20 pixels dedicated to it! The odd time you still see the same low-res radar on their TV forecasts.

Another one for the don't like it club :(

Ah lads that's horrible... Surely its a work in progress and there's a few more changes and tweak's to come:confused:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,234 ✭✭✭thetonynator

I like it, don't see anything wrong, if anything its better than the old one as you can control which frames you see and i find it easier to see the showers.

    hurts my eyes!
but the pause and forward/reverse functions are good - hopefully they will tweak it!

Oh dear, its awful, they could learn alot from raintoday. The only thing I dont like about raintoday is that they dont have enough contrast in the echos with the varable colours from blue to red etc. But really ME, this is an embarrassment when compared to raintoday.

I hope they are reading this thread and taking notes. A kid would do better in mspaint!

It doesn't sit easy on the eyes.

Too hard to see exactly where the echoes are covering.

As already mentioned, the blurring between frames is really off putting, especially if looking closely at the screen.

The legend to the right of the display is very distracting as its so large and colourful. There is a huge white empty space to the right of this which catches the eye and once you've noticed it is very distracting.

The scale is incorrectly labeled. Its only labeled in mm, there is not time period stated i.e. mm/hour

I think it will be hard to distinguish between the 1.5 to 4mm per hour rate and the 4mm to 32mm per hour rate.

Do like the ability to step frame by frame and pause but the resolution and size are terrible.

However I'm sure there must be a very good reason for the change.

Just add I think it looks terrible as well...someone start a petition to restore the old familiar look..

    I dont like it either,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,388 ✭✭✭gbee

I think it is an improvement, it needs more work to make it visually acceptable

I hope it's just a mistake and will be taken off once they have discovered a summer student has been messing around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,296 ✭✭✭pauldry

    Like that

You can see the county borders better

    Pause play function

    Dont like

    Colours are hard to distinguish

Dublin radar still not working properly

Dont want the old radar back though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,931 ✭✭✭PrzemoF

A colour selector would be perfect solution..

For all the reasons said already i dislike the new radar. The main problem is the size, its just too small. They should have a zoom feature. For some reason the old radar is still working on my site so go there if you miss it ;)

Bloody nightmare. A day full of showers & the new radar just appears as a black image on my mobile. Is there anyway of lobbying to get this changed ? I rely on the radar & sometimes check it 4 times a day on my mobile.

Compare & contrast. Yr.no decide to change their graphics so they put a link to the new version for months & invited feedback before changing it. Why can't ME consider the views of it's users ?

Interesting to put both images side by side - there are differences in the apparent sizes of showers.

just use www.raintoday.co.uk .....you can zoom to your own local area too. Even gives topography and town names, roads. Its a radar on top of a map. It even updates quicker than ME....why even look at ME radar?

Won't work on my mobile - same problem as with the new ME map - must be in a format that my phone doesn't like.

I'm in the minority, but I like it, the showers really stand out on the white country color, clear borders, very nice indeed, could load quicker, but nice.

I am angry enough that I will be phoning them tomorrow. Its a bloody disgrace that they change something without checking that it is compatible with all mobile phones.

They'll probably just say to use the mobile met site that still has the old map for now. Pity it hasnt got the animation. I'm not mad on the new radar meself.

So I phoned the HO of ME & got no reply
Tried several times & still no reply.
So I dialled the forecasting division & asked to be put thorough to the department responsible for the website. The reply was as follows:

"I'll just see if someone is interested in talking to you" - I was so shocked that I wrote it down.

    Long pause

You need to speak to our public liaison - gave me the number & no reply !. Apparently us mere customers who pay the wages are not worthy enough to be allowed to talk to the website people.

Then the forecasting guy asked why I was calling. He had assumed that I was a web developer trying to sell them something.

He said that the new radar image is a higher resolution but he too was not aware that it was being changed !

It is not a higher resolution, it's lower than the last. Plus the way they spoke to you was horrendous.

EDIT: In fact, i just checked and it does seem to be at a higher res than yesterday, they must be still tweaking it!

I sent Met Eireann an email about the new radar viewer yesterday evening and received a prompt response this morning

'Thank you for your comments regarding the updated radar viewer on www.met.ie. Please be assured we will consider your views and do our best to implement them as we continue to develop our service.'

It looks like it's very much a work in progress and that further modifications are planned.

They appear to have made a few minor changes already today and I'll reserve judgement until I see the final product

In fairness, most of us are guilty of speaking to people in a less than polite manner when we think they are trying to sell us something over the phone, so they can probably be excused for that.

I think it is useful for all the contacts that have been made, I bet they did not expect this reaction so soon.

One comment on website people ~ if they are anything like the people I've had to work with, they are part time apart from updating data, any changes made [even mistakes] would not be fixed until they were in the office again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭BEASTERLY

They definitely have been reading this thread, on the radar page there is a link to the old page.
