Can someone give me a reality check please - last few weeks eating has been particularly bad. Can someone calculate the cals in what I done today??

    Breakfast
    2 weetabix-skimmed milk-coffee no sugar.
    Medium apple

    lunch
Chicken pesto wrap (wrap with chicken, pesto, parmesan shavings). Bag of hunky dorys. Coke zero. 1 ltr water. Coffee (no sugar). Bar of chocolate.

    Dinner
Half bowl lettuce. 1 tomato. 2 scallions. 3 boiled eggs (whites only). About 10 (fat) oven chips.

Am putting on weight like no time, and its all just going down hill now. I exercise 2-3 times a week. Im 5 7 and the scales have just tipped over 12 stone this eve :o (heaviest Ive ever been). I dont like nuts or cant eat fish. I just want to add that the crisps and the choc is not something I normally eat a lunch time-actually havent eaten crips/choc like that in about a month or even longer.

Use www.fitday.com to calculate the calories in what you've eaten. The diet seems to be two extremes - salad and junk. Try to increase the protein (lean meat and keep the egg yolks, they're good for you). If your meals are unsatisfying and unappealing then the likelihood of binging on crap is higher. So try to make the main meals more substantial, and giving up the junk will be easier. If you're a bit of a chocolate addict, try dark choc (70% cocoa at least) - a couple of squares with your coffee will satisfy cravings.

    Hi thanks for the reply.
I just want a ball park figure.
I dont like taste of the yolk. I guess the crisps and chocolate alone are about 400 cals. As I asid today is the first day in a while Ive gone like this, but the weight is just coming on-like my metabolism all of a sudden decides to stop when in my 30s.
Edit: I posted here a while ago but didnt get many useful replies bar the eat more protein (which still doesnt work), but I suffer from hunger constantly, I could eat 2 chicken breasts and a pile of salad and Id still be starving. Ive been to doc/done tests and he says nothing wrong with them.

Ok well if you're not keen on upping the protein, you can bulk your meals with veggies. Add spices, chilli, garlic, pesto anything to veg to make them more interesting. If you like some carbs, try having a small portion of wholegrain versions. My advice would be to weigh any carbs like pasta/rice/spuds so make sure you're idea of portion size is ok - it can creep up over time! Try adding some houmous to your salads to make them more satisfying.

why not do some form of exercise every day even if just a 15 minute walk before dinner? two times a week might not cut it if your watching the scales. The diet doesnt look too heavy on calories but could do with more vegetables.

If youve been eating badly the last while that will explain it. 99.5% of times, weight gain is because people are not 100% honest with their food and/or really adding cals up wrongly.Things like cheese and pesto (olive oil based) can rack up cals - they are good, but they pack a punch in. Weighing food really opens up peoples eyes. Like 100gms grated cheese can be 350-380ish cals and i would easily see sometimes 100gms of grated cheese in a deli roll. A day like above wouldn't look like mega cals to me though - id imagine you would lose weight on that at 12stone

I would 2nd the fitday.com. It does really work esp if you are completey honest with it.

Also, it didn't look like you were drinking enough water, at times you can just be thristy but your body thinks its hunger.

There are loads of great apps for Iphone/Ipad/Ipod that track your cals, exercise etc. I find them totally eye opening. Sometimes you don't realise how many calories are in food that you would have previously considered 'good'.

With your posted diet, was the wrap shop bought? Some of those shop bought wraps are full of calories. If yours had dressing, cheese etc, it could have been much higher in cals than you think. You would be better making your own lunch.

What kind of exercise are you doing? If it is just walking, you might want to try and up it to walking/cycling/gym.

Keep a food diary and be religious about what you put in it. You might be eating more than you think.

I think it definitely gets harder to lose weight after 30 though! I was just saying that to my husband today, I have been really good for the last 3 weeks and I have lost a massive 3lbs . Long gone are the days when I could lose 2-3lbs a week
