I have an opel zafira 04 have it since 05 great car. In the last couple of days its developed a problem when changing gears. 1st and reverse are difficult to go into gear and the others are difficult to go in but not as bad. It doesn't seem like its the clutch as i have loads of pedal when its moving off, also sometimes the gears are grand no problem going into gear at all which leads me to believe its not the gearbox

Any ideas or estimates on possible costs would be appreciated

    thanks

First and reverse is usually a sign that the clutch needs to be replaced.

It might be a gear linkage bush either. If there is excessive play it can be hard getting it into gear.

Fixed same problem on my fathers car, local garages all giving different diagnosis (varying from bushes to gearbox!) tried replacing/changing bushings linkage ect
A young lad in a breakers told him that the 1st rod that goes from bottom of gearstick towards engine can turn slightly, and you can loosen and fix this,
Turns out that was the problem, and as we had a spare gearstick with bottom part attached if our quick botch would fail, we peared the white plastic at bottom of the gearstick on the left hand side which was stopping it going over fully over to 1st and reverse and problem solved easy and free
That was last year still no problems and have done same to my cousins since seems to be a common problem

Is this linkage a cable that connects into the gearknob ? My wife's Zafira had an issue before Xmas which we thought we solved when this "cable" was replaced buy the new one popped out again 10 days ago. Have been told they are an issue with Opels.

    Any permenent solution ?
