male, 33 - underweight

I am writing this to ask if anyone (especially guys) what to do if they are underweight?.

I am 33 and for a healthy male my age, I feel by now I should be well built and not thin. I am around 12 stone and have been since I was in secondary school.
I am happy with my upper body but my thighs/legs/crotch area/bum is very thin/scrawny and over the last few years I have resorted to wearing shorts, padding and other leggings under my trousers, at work and outside of work. This I know is wrong and is getting me down.

I just wish I was more 'chunkier' and feel so jealous when I look at other guys who can fill a pair of jeans, I just look down at me and see just nothing (as if I am a frail old man).

It's doing nothing for my confidence, especially with woman.

The reason I am underweight is that it runs in my family (Father, Brothers) and also the fact that I wasn't well fed when I was a young kid.

I have a good diet now and don't go hungry. I walk and cycle, but I know I should be building fat and muscle, playing sports and taking protein products?? but that may take time and I just don't feel motivated sometimes.

Any quick fix..What'll I do? Thanks!

I think you've answered yourself there - there's no quick fix! I'm no nutrition/exercise expert, I'm sure there'll be someone along soon to give you advice on those matters, but for now - embrace your litheness! Alex Zane, George Lamb, any member of ANY guitar-based band you can think of - all embrace the fitted suit/skinny jeans/skinny shirt and tie look, they are all long, lean, and most of all, HOT! Being thin isn't necessarily a bad thing....

You can change your body shape, but there is no quick fix, it would take a hell of a lot of hard work. And I think the first bit of hard work you need to do is inside your head, there is nothing wrong with your shape! Look at top athletes, particularly cyclists. Skinny as a rake the lot of em. The only thing thats wrong here is that you dont like your own shape, but other people probably look at you and wish they had your physique, we're never happy!

If you truly want to bulk a bit I recommend heading over to the Health and Fitness forum for some advice on the best way to tackle it.

Yes, as long as your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 18 and 25 (divide your weight in pounds by your height in feet), you are not underweight. Like the other poster said, the health and fitness forum will give you advice on how to bulk up in the areas you require. I know cycling is great for the thighs and gyms have equipment that cater for legs/thigh bulking.
