Just saw this on the 9pm news, shocking stuff

    Happened up around Fairhill

Say they don't catch the criminal, is there any way he can be compensated for the cash stolen?

So sad. I heard on the radio today that it was a five figure sum.

Awful how these thugs can prey on vulnerable people.

thought I heard somewhere that it happened at 10 to 7 this morning. Why did they target this poor man did they know he had the cash or did someone tip them off to it.

What happened? I really wish elderly people would be more careful, this guy clearly knew him as how else would he know the man had such a sum of money?

Poor man. Its a shame there wasn't someone living with him, it might have been avoided.

It sounds as if someone got a tip off that he had the money in the house.

has to be a tip off:mad::mad::mad:

but the garda didn't have garda uniform on..how or why would anyone be so silly to hand over that amount.
He must have told a few relatives too, or even a friend. that's what banks are for.

If he had it in the bank it might have gone to the crown prince of Nigeria instead

Plainclothes Gardai are not unheard of, bit of fake ID or whatever and an unsuspecting pensioner could be duped quite easily unfortunately. Much of the older generation can be quite unsuspecting of folks claiming to be officials. This scumbag had his research done no doubt.

The only consolation is that this man was not hurt. Little consolation I know, but some scum terrorise their victims and kill. I remember a terrible case on tv where they beat the pensioner, tied him up and he died.

Took the money out of the bank as was afraid it would go bust and he would lose everything.
