Water gushing noise while stopper

I have a CLK 230 kompressor, now when i come to a stop i can hear water/liquid gushing around from behind the dash area, sounds like water flowing around a drain pipe.

It have had to fill up the coolant resevoir twice in 4 weeks. The engine temperature seems to be fine, is normally around 80-90c after a halfhour of driving. Seems to have normal power when accelerating.

My mate who was a mechanic for years took a look it before i noticed this noise, said everything seemed to be fine, although he noiticed a fumey smell from the coolant tank, which could be a bad sign, if coolant is going through the engine ie head gasket failing.

have been meaning to go get a compression test. anyone have any ideas about the above symptoms?

Check the floor carpet / underlay to see if it's damp. You might have the beginning of a heater matrix leak, causing coolant to leak in to the cabin.

It could be a noisey air con system. Check to see if it happens when the A/C is switched off.

I was going to say air in the system, but it does sound like you're loosing coolant from somewhere, possibly the heater core as mentioned.

Checked around the floor no sign of dampness or wetness anywhere.

Will if it happens with the AC off. i had just put boiled and cooled water in the coolant tank cause i didnt have any proper coolant. not sure if this can cause issues.

Just hoping its not the head gasket, although as the temps are never above normal, would this be unlikely?

I had a similar noise when I changed the coolant in my last car, turned out it was just air in the system and just needed to be bled, then was fine.

Just went out and popped the bonnet, the fat tube coming from the engine had alot of pressure when squeezed.

I opened the coolant cap and was alot of pressure, then when it was off i squeezed the tube and the coolant tank started burping with air coming up. The coolant level also rose a fair bit.

Is this a dodgy water pump, sorry im only new to fiddling with cars, but am handy enough and would like to learn :D

there are water drain offs in a clk which need to be regularly cleared out.simple job to do but if neglected can cause problems like blower motor failing or water in under carpets.
first thing to do is clear drain offs. Also check high up in the PSF footwell for dampness, try to get under the carpet to feel for dampness if possible. If it is wet,get the carpet out completely and dry out FULLY.

The noise you are hearing is an air lock in the heater rad behind the dash.

Now assuming there is no water leaks anywhere and the car is still using water it sounds very much like your head gasket is on the way out.

The fact that who ever you got to have a look at it commented about the smell from the coolant tank it sounds like thats whats wrong.

Yep your certainly right, it was the head gasket gone.

Seems i was sold a pup, the head and rad were recently messed with, thermostat was removed and all.

At least its been put right now. Thanks for the advice. :)

Yep, looks like a quick patch job was done to sell it, started drinking coolant and engine sounding worse and worse each day.

Brought it to nissan doctor, hes done all the gaskets and water pump and so on. Should ahve it back today or tomorrow.

Jesus that's an awful pity, I hope it doesn't cost a small fortune/ruin the car for you. Plus I hope the prick that sold it to you gets his just deserts.
