Pre/Post shave lotions

What do these pre/post shave lotions do?

When I'm shaving against the grain the blade tends to get stuck and kind of tares at the face, I'm looking to soften up the hair before shaving.

I don't shave daily so I don't get as much practice and my face maybe isn't getting used to being shaved but if I don't go against the grain I have a 5 o'clock shadow.

Shave after you've had a shower (or in it) Personally I don't use Shave Gels/Foam, but find if I massage a dollop of Silcox Base into my smig and use that instead of Shave lotions I get a smashing shave with little to no burn or pull.
It's worth noting that I use a DE safety razor, not sure how Silcox base would work with multi blade razors, But you can get a bucket of it in any Chemist for about a fiver.

The proraso pre-shave cream (€8-€10) is lovely.
    http://www.shaving.ie/products/Proraso-Pre-and-Post-Shaving-Cream.html

It is a menthol based cream so gives fresh menthol feeling, cooling and pretty wakey-up in the morning. The Eucalyptus seems to be healing to so if you nick it doesn't bleed so much.

I recommend this one as you can use as post shave too.

never thought of Silcocks Base, way cheaper than the dedicated pre/post shave creams, and I'm sure I have a tub of knocking around as I have two kids, cheers for that uch.

Some people swear by Olive Oil too, I've never tried it.

I usually do shave after a shower, using DE blade as well.

I wouldn't be to gone on putting oil on may face.

Anyone have experience of Speick as a post-shave?

Was thinking of buying either this or the Proraso.

I just bought some more, it's my everyday post-shave treatment (Proraso for pre-shave). In winter I'll alternate the Speick intensive which is richer and more unctuous. I'm a big Speick fan, I even use the deo stick.

IMHO the proraso is a better pre-shave..unless you like a strong menthol finisher.

Are the Proraso products available in any shops, or would I have to order it on-line?

Shaving.ie are out of stock at the moment.

The 3P product is an alternative.

I prefer it to the Proraso one.

If you are set on getting the Proraso stuff you could try www.4men.ie

I've ordered stuff from them before and the delivery was pretty quick. They also have special offers every now and then. I got 2 Proraso aftershave balms for the price of 1 a while ago.

I forgot to put that in this thread. I put it in another thread but not this one for some reason

I'm hoping they do the one for the aftershave balm again. It's excellent stuff.
