Vaio not recognising BluRay drive

    Hi Folks,
Wondering if anyone here might have any ideas or input on what's going on with my laptop.
Sony Vaio FZ series laptop, few years old now so it's out of warranty. I've just discovered it's not playing or even detecting blu ray discs. I've no real idea when it started as it is a few months since I've used it for bluray. It has no problem with CD/DVD but the drive itself seems only to be recognised as a CD/DVD ROM drive- no mention of BD except in the device manager where it's listed as an optiarc BD ROM ..... ATA device.
The only firmware update on the vaio website doesn't recognise it as a BD ROM and won't install, and sony don't provide a mail support service for OOW devices it seems so I thought I'd check here, see if anyone has come across a drive changing to a completly different kind of drive!
