I have a leupold GX-1 which I got from a shop in the Uk over the Internet. Came to 250 euro including postage. Havent try'd any others but it's visibly smaller than the bushnell.

It's tournament legal and so is the GX-3. It comes with an equally compact case which I have strapped to my bag. Making it very handy and quick to use. And it's very accurate.

The only bad thing about it is during evening golf I get to the 1 hole and it's uphill and the sun is setting directly behind the green. It is u able to get a reading directly into the sun, although I'm sure all laser range finders suffer the same ailment.

Other than that tho I highly recommend.

I have the Leupold GX3. I think it is a great device. I got it when I was living in the US, so can't really help on price. I did try a number of different devices, including the Bushnell and Callaway devices, but the Leupold was smaller and felt sturdier, and also the display was much better.

I use the Bushnell Tour V2. Seems to be the weapon of choice of the majority of golfers. I find it perfect. Neater than the bigger Bushnell which is a two-handed job.

    The Tour V2 is €240ish I think.

My recommendation is the Bushnell pro1600. Yes, it's bigger and pricier than the V2 but the build quality is supurb and most important in this Irish weather, waterproof. Played with it in the constant downpour last Friday, no problems at all.

Same as that. I find the V2 very easy to use and the pin-seeker is a great option. The Leopold has*7 magnification though, the v2 has *5.
If they were both selling at the shop I reckon I would have gone for the GX3, but I'm very happy with the Tour V2.

    Yours etc,
    GSH.

Agreed Bushnell V2 is they way to go, easy to use and small enough to hide in the bag out of the way.

Anyone have the Nikon 350? believe it pips the V2 on optics at x10. A little more expensive but the review all sound good, was thinking of getting one so any comments?

Have to say these are a big help. Two buddies I golf with both got them (I'm saving up! :) ) and they do make a difference. First of all - because like most amateurs, I routinely udnerestimate the distance I have to the flag/hazard etc so this is a big help.

And even when you check the distance and find your estimation was correct anyway, it's just great to have any doubt removed from your mind - allowing you to swing with confidence.

Great example, yesterday playing par-five 12th at St Margaret's (pond in front of green), I walked to my drive and my exact thought was "can't hit anymore than eight-iron lay-up here to be sure..." but once I checked with the rangefinder, I realised I had 183 to the hazard so I hit my best six-iron, left me about 15yds short of the hazard and a handy pitch to the green gave me a birdie chance.

Great stuff altogether... definitely my next decent golf purchase!

Darn sounds good :( But how good are they.. I need to get a new putter because the one I currently use is so dodge its not funny, the ball just bounces off it. And then I would not mind getting custom fit for my clubs, and I played with a mates R11 today and it was amazing. The range finder just drops down the list of things that could help my game. I think the putter and the clubs have to be addressed first anyway. **** the recession a job wouldn't go astray.
