Weird chest sensations while falling asleep

    Ok,

DISCLAIMER: I am *not* looking for medical advice, nor would I take any from someone who is not a qualified doctor. I am just looking to see if this happens to anyone else.

    Actual post:
For months now, possibly even a year I've been getting massive 'dropping' sensations in my chest as I'm trying to go asleep, as if there was suddenly 50% less blood in my body or something. About a week ago, my I started feeling weird gurgling/rumbling sensations in my heart, exactly like your stomach feels when it rumbles.

Do these things happen to anyone else? It's driving me absolutely mad, not to mention depriving me of sleep (see time of post, and I'm up at 7am..)

I would derive some comfort knowing (before my doctor's visit next week) that I'm not the only person in the world this happens to...

You're not the only person in the world to get this-my OH gets it on occaision. It could be any number of things, but the only person who can tell you exactly what it is, is your doctor. Could be stress, could be medical, could just be one of those things that go away by itself, you're doing the right thing by seeing your GP though. Best of luck!!

I just felt those last night! I was snorting snot a lot too. like the way your mother tells you not to, right before she gets mad and tells you to blow your nose. Not sure what it is to be honest. If you're curious ask a GP. *especially* for any Chronic Symptom, which yours DEFINITELY is. I mean it could just be a heart murmur but one would want to know. Don't worry about it to much, good luck at your visit.

It could be any number of things and even if it happens to someone else, there may be totally different reasons for it with yourself.Anything here would purely be speculation.Thread closed.

banquo, that you posted on boards looking for advice means that you're not considering this a big deal because you otherwise feel fine.

And it may not be a big deal, you could be getting palpitations or anything and it could be down to stress, caffeine intake, alcohol intake, obesity, any number of things. But it could equally (or additionally) be down to some inherent cardiac issue.

Many people feel these things, and particularly when they're in their 20s and 30s they shrug them off as passing phases because they otherwise feel fine. And then when they hit their fifties they drop dead from a cardiac problem which could have been diagnosed years ago if they just went to a doctor.

If it happened once or twice, you could be OK to ignore it. But this is an ongoing thing, occurring at a known time. Your heart is not supposed to "gurgle" or "drop" :). Even if other people could say to you, "Yeah, this happens to me too", the first thing I would do is tell all of you to go get checked out, because it doesn't happen to me or the vast majority of the population. So it's an issue.

Even if a GP sends you for an ECG and you get the all-clear, then you can rest easy. If he finds something wrong then you will look back at 60 years of age and thank jeebus that you got it sorted out before it became a problem.

(Yes, I know the thread is already locked, but I think this is important enough to warrant a response).
