Quick mask problem

Hi everyone, When i select to use my quick mask tool in cs3 the blue highlite on the layer palette turns to a shade of gray as if unselected and doesn't allow me to use the quick mask tool! It was working fine tis morning and there doesn't seem to be a problem with any other tool. Any ideas??

Reset your swatches to default. black foreground, white background
