Charleville Show Classic car disaster

The show today was a cod. Arrived at half twelve after an hour and a half drive to be told the main grounds were full and that a field would be opened across the road 500 metres down from the entrants gate. This field was littered with rocks and cow dung. A total afterthought and unsuitable. It seems to me that the organisers do not give premium spaces to classic cars.Other lovely BMWs Capris Etc trundled into the field. To top this off there was a tailback 3 miles long going into the show when I cleared off half an hour later with many other classics trying to get in.
It would be great if there was a classic cars only day at the venue or a completely separate show where tractors and balloon stalls are not taking up valuable space.
Anyone else had this experience today?
Time for a new show in Cork as Inishannon doesn't cut it either for classics

You left it very late to arrive at a show that started to take in exhibits Friday night. I can never understand why people with old cars take them to what are essentially Agricultural Shows held in fields. Plenty empty industrial estates with large warehouses to keep the rain off available at a reasonable fee per car I imagine, and any profits to be kept to purchase a proper facility to suit your needs like the Charleville Show Commitee did

Yes, it was tight, but with these sort of shows you need to be there early. We got in today at 11.30, which was a bit late even. I arrived at innishannon at 10am. Both trips took an hr and a half. Charleville is a massive show with a huge amount of varied exibits with stuff like horses and the whole other field of stalls and kids funfair.
If you are there your there for the day. No point plaque hunting late in the day like a local show might be like. Innishannon seems to have much more stewards about the place i will say.

Even the field was ok today, what soft ground that was there was non stick!

i hate ploughed field car shows too. To be fair to Charleville I do believe they did say you had to be there by noon.

Stewards were under serious pressure EVERY trade stand and truck was being towed in to the field from 8am Saturday morning.

Was this your first time at the show ?

As they did advertise to be in for 12am, the amount of abuse stewards got at the gate for refusing entries due to health and safety reasons, if there was an emergency for example.

''It seems to me that the organisers do not give premium spaces to classic cars'' But why ? Its a vintage show not a classic car show.
It was done as best as possible as some of the ground could not be used due to state of the field, which again was not the organizers fault.

They tried to accomadate the excess cars by providing another area for them to park, would you prefer to be told ''Its full, **** off home''

    Next time arrive on time.

In fairness you did leave it too late and with the weather on Fri and Saturday the field was a mess.

We got there at 11.00, drove in with no problems bar getting past lots of spectators slowly and carefully to the Opel area.
There was a lot of free space on the field if it had been used properly.

Next year I think the autojumblers should be moved into the next field with the trade stands. There was a lot of free space in the bottom of that field near where the steam engines were parked. Tractors should be moved to the top of the show field as they could probably negotiate the soft ground better than cars, leaving more space for cars at the bottom of the field and leave the commercials where they are.

    Great show though.

The show is always mobbed with classic cars on the Sunday with space at a premium. It was made worse this year due to the poor ground conditions meaning the commercial vehicles took up more room than usual and the display areas for cars got more fragmented as well. It was taking up to three tractors to drag some of the trucks in on Saturday.

I've always found it amusing that some owners turn up at shows a long time after it's opened. If it was the UK you'd have to be on site by 9.30 and all vehicle movement is banned once the show is open, usually at 10.00. I do prefer the more relaxed attitude here though :)

Interesting to hear, Couldn't get down to the show myself, but sounds like a case of first up best dressed. I have found a bit of snobbery towards vintage tractors in the past from some car people. They basically said that the tractors were far less important. The 'valuable space' spoken of by the OP is there for all aspects of the show from what I saw last year. If you feel that strongly then write to the organisers. In fairness theres a lot of farm machinery at that show.

I did **** off home and others who were told to park in the **** field should have done the same.

What did you expect them to do ? Let you in with every other late comer and risk health and safety.

The field was provided and vintage car owners were stamped so they got free entry to the show.

You do realise there was OVER 600 hundred cars ALONE there right ?

why wouldn't they get in free!?!??you expect them to be charged after bringing an exhibit?
Whatever way you roll rhe dice an exclusive classic car and van show on Cork needs to be set up where there is plenty of room on Tarmac to show cars w no tactors threshers or anything else .

Rather like the Mondello show !!

No i'm just stating that they did.

Here's an idea off with you and start your own show.

    Have to agree with YBTurbo.

I got there at 10.30. We set up our club stand and had room for 26 cars as we did our own stewarding. Charleville is a great show and is an excellent family day out. The weather was perfect and everybody got out a lot quicker than Durrow a few years ago even though it's the main Limerick-Cork road.

Go to Fermoy if you want a show on tarmac.

if a car show runs from 8am til close there should not be a time limit for classic cars. There should be plenty of space to accomodate all comers within that timeframe. Furthermore the show did not allow for anyone to leave they were so crammed in. People leave which allows cars to come in and if it was set out properly and marshalled properly then jams delays and refusals would not happen.
All about getting maximum money for minimum effort from what I saw.
Wouldn't travel across the road to attend again let alone travel from Co Waterford
same old attitude sure it will do.

When the cars are in, you can't have cars coming in and out all the time due to health and safety. If you walked in you would realise it was impossible to drive smoothly from the top to the bottom due to the amount of people.

It all comes down due to you arriving late and expecting to be treated as royalty as you have a classic car, doesn't work that way.
The people who arrived early were accomadated, you turned up too late.

I don't see why you are making a big deal out of this and giving a bad name to the show, have you realised you are the only one complaining ?

Seriously get down off your high horse and accept you were late.

I did walk in and you couldn't move smoothly because the cars were squeezed into the space w very little thought or planning
even if u cleared out all the people you would be getting 5 car owners to move if u needed to get out.
    huge space wasted.

But sure you thought it was great that's the main thing
    good for you

i get the impression that all the planning went out of the window when we had a monsoon in joon.
With the best will in the world I would think those marshalls performed miracles to get anything on to the site and I wonder how close they came to closing the gate and not letting any classic in (I didnt go as I dont like muddy fields)
