What do you guys think of the President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir and the charges being brought against him? He's being charged with genocide, resisting arrest, and corruption. He allegedly used excessive force against the civilian population during the Darfur War. On one side he was fighting what he considered to be "terrorists" and on the other side he committed genocide against civilians and was discriminatory against different ethnic groups within his own country.

He seems to be hiding from international police forces and probably won't surrender without putting even more blood on his hands. Personally I think he's guilty, but that's for the International Criminal Court to decide. What do you think, is he a hero for his putting an end to the Second Sudanese Civil War and the War in Darfur, or is he a genocidal dictator for his refusal to give up power and allegedly committing genocide? He's a good actor, but is he a good president?

Any man who's a friend of Miles O' Brien can't be all bad!:pac:

Seriously, he's a bad egg, but I think the ICC move was counter-productive in the extreme. I remember reading at the time that there had been talks which would involve him stepping aside, and the introduction of some reforms, but the chances of him going now are remote. Why would he, when he knows he potentially faces prison?

I don't have a comment to make, other than how much I admire the Deep Space Nine Reference. :)

Yeah, he is probably guilty, and should probably spend the rest of his life in jail, but what Einhard mentioned was a good point in regards to the ICC conviction, where they may have jumped the gun. However, seeing as it has already been done, I think it would be for the best if he were sent to the ICC. Maybe, someday that will happen.

The warrant has been out on this fella since 2008 or 2009. Everything short of genocide really, although some would like to see him done for it.

On top of all that he's accused of squirreling away billions, probably a large fraction of the GDP no doubt.

Its just more likely to make him cling to power and just keep trying to bury evidence.

Unless they nab him abroad, I suspect he'll be around for awhile. Certainly won't want to go into exile with the ICC after him, especially after all their recent big catches.
