Dell Inspiron 1545 Charger Powers Laptop But Won't Charge

As it says on the tin, my laptop charger powers my laptop fine but won't charge the battery. When I plus it in, it asks for a 65W adapter. It's a Dell Inspiron 1545. The battery is fine, all the pins are fine and it powers the laptop on it's own fine. I can see that the problem is almost certainly in the side of the charger that goes into the laptop, where it has bent, probably bending the wire and weakening it and as a result creating a bad connection, reducing the wattage. I'm tempted to try and fix that end of it but it seems risky, as I'll have nothing to power the laptop if it goes wrong.

Anything else that could be wrong before I have to replace the charger.

Did you do a google search on this?

I bought a Dell Inspiron for someone and the charger went just like this. I think I remember googling it at the time and figuring it was a common enough complaint.

Rang Dell and they replaced it under warranty. No issues since.

If you're not under warranty, I would think you'll have to replace the charger.

It worked fine for months beforehand.
