"Friend request sent" message after I accept a friend request on Facebook

I just received three friend requests on Facebook. These were all from people I know in real life. When I accepted the requests the message "friend request sent" appeared for all three. Now these people have to accept me as a friend.

I'm confused by this. I didn't send friend requests; I accepted them. Why did this message appear?

I think this is what happens when people suggest friends, so bascially a mutual friend who knows you both would have used the 'suggest friends' function, then you both get the request and whoever clicks on it first sends the request onto the other person.

This happened to me recently with my friends new boyfriend, she suggested us as friends and I thought I was accepting his friendship request but actually what I did was send him a friendship request. It was obvious though that the connection came through because of the friend suggestion.

I just read back over that and it all sounds very confusing, hope it made some sort of sense to you!!

I think I understand what you mean. My sister must have suggested me to her friends (who are actually my nephew, another sister and my brother in law).

    Thanks.
