Can anybody tell me what exactly is covered by a VEC grant for a masters student?

I have been offered a masters and I hope to accept it, however the only issue is cost. I need to know if a grant covers some of the fees and if there is maintenance also?

    Hi,

If you qualify for the grant then you will get the free fees and student contribution covered as well. If you are do not qualify for the grant, then you will have to pay the fees and student contribution. Check this link below; that's where I usually get my info on these things.

For a masters, the VEC will pay up to 6k-ish of the fees, you will have to cover the rest. Maintenance awards are the same as for undergraduate degrees.

Just following on from this post, I am an EU national, working in ireland for over 1 year but I want to start a Masters at Trinity in Sept 2011. the grants people were very confusing and just said I had to just send in all the documents for the new grants system to find out if I would get a grant but before i do that and definitely accept the course, i was wondering if anyone knows what the chances are of getting any maintenance/fees paid? Background is that I did a 4th level diploma in the UK (no grant) 8 years ago and prior to that a 3rd level degree (there were no fees then). Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

Firstly you have to be able to prove residency in Ireland for 3 of the 5 years before starting your course to be eligible to apply. You'll also have to show that you are progressing academically i.e. that your 4th level diploma is at a lower level than the course you want to start in the autumn.
