We went there for a week's holiday in September 2009 and stayed in Argassi. Loved the place. We were on the outskirts of the town and there was loads of restaurants and pubs, a long shingly beach and shops etc. We hired mopeds for two days and explored the island - the beaches were amazing, would love to go back. Would def recommend Argassi - from touring bout the island it came across as the best resort area there, more of a town than just strip development and close to the best beaches on the island and in easy distance to Zakynthos town.

mopeds sound like a great idea!!! Did you need to bring your license for them? Some places are relaxed about not having your license with you.

Thanks for the quick reply too :D

Well I remember my sister went to Crete in Greece and noone of them had licenses and all of them were allowed so :p

Might be different now but... ;):D

Yeah, we had to show our licenses alright - maybe depends on the company? That said - if you don't have a license there are were a good few buses servicing the more popular beaches and towns so getting around shouldn't be a problem.

Stayed there myself a few years back had a great time. I rented a quad for 2 days and myself and the OH toured around the whole island. We found totally deserted beaches in the middle of nowhere and they were beautifu. Id definitely recommend it.

Argassi is lovely, as is Alikanas. I've stayed in Tsilivi a few times and have always hired cars to get out and see the island. There's deserted beaches all up and down the east coast.

The only place I would avoid is Laganas, and even still it's far from the worst resort in the greek islands.
