as above really on 1.8 tdci, when turn off car and try to restart wont go, clicking noise only starter dosent go, if i connect jump leads then car start straight away everything working fine and battery light dosent come on for 5-10 minutes...im guessing the alternator would i be right? or is there something else to look for?

Sounds like Alternator alright - if you have access to a multi-meter then start it and check voltage at batter terminals with a few things turned on like lights and radio if alternator is ok you should be getting a steady 14 + plus volts. If not then Alternator or alternator belt is on the fritz.

On the fords its often a broken wire coming from the alternator that causes this fault.
