A Bee in my Askium

My Askium rear freewheel has started to get noisy from time to time and, when it does, I can feel a slight vibration coming through the pedals.
An odd time it get quite loud and buzzy, and sounds like there is a very big and angry bee trapped in there.
Are there some innards to be replaced?
    What do I need?
    Where can I get it?
    Is it a tricky job?
    Any special tools needed?

    Thanks.

Bah! my rear Ksyrium Equipe (which to my eyes looks pretty identical to the Askium Race) has started to do the exact same about a week or two ago.

I removed it from the bike and when you "bounce" it it buzzes. When I check the spoke tension they all seem okay. The axle seems securely tightened, so the job I have set myself for tomorrow is to remove the tyre etc and investigate further.

My front hub developed a bit of free play in the initial months but has been fine once I tightened it up.

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has any pointers.

Mine was vibrating and dragging the chain on long descents. I stripped it down, cleaned and lubed (3-1 oil in the ratchet well) and reassembled it. Has been fine since. Now, mine had no free play so presumably no wear, just dry and dragging...

There was no play in my cassette either, just the rubber seal expanding as it heated up on long descents, the shop fixed it up for me under warranty and haven't had any trouble since

Did the shop say what they did? I wonder was it just the same clean and lube or did they replace stuff?

Right, so I went and took the freehub apart and sure enough one stupid little pawl spring meant 3 minutes searching the ground. Took off the seal, cleaned it up in general - but it wasn't that dirty or dusty at all.

Put it back together and still the stupid rattle. So I went in search of it. Tyre off and shake move shake move etc.

Definitely a rattle in the rim... lift the rim tape a bit and tilt and there we have it.

It appears to be something square inside the box section of the rim, and it happens to coincide with the weld section. It's a black cube with a silver centre. It doesn't look like it wants to come out as it moves between two spokes (and it's about half way along from the valve hole).

I'll ask the LBS during the week to see if they can ask Mavic about this feature...

Same exact thing happened to my rear Mavic Ksyrium Equipe, very very annoying

If you can't get it out and it's not a broken structural piece, a dab of glue in the right place will stop it rattling...
