Am I insured?

My insurance was up last night with Quinn and a few weeks ago I got a better quote from the AA so I took out a deferred payment with them (wanted to see if I could get a better price elsewhere before committing).

Anyway I told them and re-confirmed it with the AA via phone that I needed the cover to start today (25th). I checked my credit card earlier this week and they did charge me the full amount so I have paid it. However I have not yet received my insurance disc or anything. I just have the original quote information that they posted out.

I'm sort of lucky at the moment that it's the weekend so I could do without driving the car if necessary but I will probably need to use it on Tuesday. Unfortunately I think their offices are closed today.

My car tax is also up on Wednesday and I can't renew it until I get the policy details from AA.

Am I covered? A friend of mine says that once you pay the money, you are covered. I don't know if that is true or not.

I would say you are covered but I would not be 100% confident until I had a cert in my hand.

did you contact quinn and tell them you are not renewing (its a term and condition of your insurance that you will inform them if you are renewing or not)

they will send out your no-claims bonus cert - which you give to new insurer, along with some details and you receive insurance cert a few days later.

have you tried contacting the AA and asking if they require anything or telling them you have not received the insurance disc.

I phoned Quinn up at least a week ago and told them I'm not renewing. They already sent my NCB cert out and that has been sent off to the AA.

Once they confirm you're insured @time and @date over the phone its binding, but then id wait until i have my disc in hand before throwing my car into corners at 100mph...

If they took the money, you're insured. They usually take a while to send out new certs...

I'd be 100% confident your insured. Moneys gone and truce confirmed over the phone.

You're on cover, once its confirmed over the phone its on cover from the date you specified.

It does take a day or 2 to get your certs sent out and all that though.

They took the money, contract has been made. Your insured.

You could always ring them to check, but I'd agree you should be covered. It's normal when changing providers to not have the cert straight away which is the main reason Gardaí give you 10 days to present it if you do get stopped.

I usually get confirmation by text, email or fax for peace of mind.

And, the law also allows you to drive legally without displaying an insurance disc for up to 10 days from the date the policy came into effect. So you won't get done for non-display either.
